South Carolina edges Camels 2-1
Singles by sophomores third baseman Brittany Bruce and second baseman Shaela Churchill placed the potential game-winning run at second base with two outs for Campbell in the bottom of the seventh, but South Carolina escaped Amanda Littlejohn Stadium with a 2-1 victory on Tuesday evening .
Campbell (17-9) put the first run on the scoreboard in the third with a solo homer by freshman Courtney Klingler. Klingler and Raven Lee are tied for the team lead with eight homers on the season.
Senior Brittany Arnn tossed a complete game for the Camels, allowing seven hits and no earned runs while getting one strikeout.
Both runs the Gamecocks scored in the fifth were unearned. Alaynie Page's triple plated what stood as the game-winning run.
With Camels on second and third and two down in the seventh, South Carolina got the final out on a hard grounder picked up by the first baseman.
The Gamecocks were paced offensively by catcher Shelby Gonzales with a pair of singles. Audrey Broyles (6-2) notched the victory for South Carolina. Katie Marks registered her first save of the season.
Campbell returns to the Big South slate on Friday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Coastal Carolina.
