No. 28 Camels pummel New Orleans 14-0
No. 28 Campbell pounded out 14 runs on 17 hits to defeat New Orleans 14-0 Thursday at Jim Perry Stadium.
Campbell improved to 44-9 overall with its seventh straight win, while UNO dips to 7-42 on the season.
The three-game series against the Privateers, concluding Saturday afternoon, is the last tune-up before the Camels, the Big South's season champions, head into the Big South Championships.
Six Camels posted multiple hits in the win, with Brent Graham going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Michael Felton drove in a team-high four runs on a 2-for-3 night, also scoring twice. The senior's bases-clearing triple in the sixth scored three of the Camels' nine runs in the inning, as CU sent 13 batters to the plate in the frame.
The Camels also scored two runs in the third and fifth inning, while Felton's sacrifice fly scored one in the first.
Colby Fox and Michael DeLucia knocked in two apiece, while Ben McQuown scored three runs and gathered two hits. David Olson and Will Albertson also scored twice for Campbell, with each adding a RBI on the night.
Ryan Mattes picked up the win to move to 7-3 on the season, pitching six innings with five hits, six strikeouts and a walk. Trevor Lane allowed a pair of hits while striking out one and walking one in an inning of work.
Ryan Koopman and Paul Eyster, pitched the eighth and ninth, with each allowing one hit. The shutout was Campbell's fourth of the season.
UNO starter Blake Prest was charged with the loss, falling to 1-7 after giving up five runs on eight hits with a strikeout in 4.2 innings.
Dan Perkins and Seth Laigast both gathered two hits for the Privateers.
The series continues at 6 p.m. Friday and finishes Saturday at 1 p.m. Saturday's regular season finale will serve as senior day, recognizing the Camels' 13 seniors.
The Big South Championships begin May 21 in Lynchburg, Va.
