N.C. State hosts Camels Saturday night
Coming off a 73-66 win Tuesday at Appalachian State, Campbell heads to Raleigh Saturday for a 7 p.m. start against North Carolina St. at PNC Arena.
The game will be aired on ESPN3, the Campbell University Radio Network (107.3 FM in the Sandhills region) and at GoCamels.com.
At Appalachian St., the Camels (2-0) opened up a 37-21 lead by halftime and held off a late Mountaineer run to give first-year head coach Kevin McGeehan his first victory over a Division I program. Sophomore D.J. Mason came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points, while Darius Leonard added 16 and Andrew Ryan 14 for the Camels. Freshman point guard Quinton Ray added seven assists and one turnover in 34 minutes.
Campbell’s spread motion attacking offense emphasizes unselfish play. In the first two wins, the Camels have logged 37 assists on 58 made field goals.
The Wolfpack (1-1) opened the season with a 98-77 victory over Appalachian St, before dropping a 68-57 decision at Cincinnati. T.J. Warren (17.5 points) and Desmond Lee (17.0) are the Wolfpack scoring leaders through two games.
Campbell will meet the Wolfpack for the 11th time. Two years ago, N.C. State claimed an 87-81 victory over the Camels at Reynolds Coliseum despite Darren White’s 25-point effort.
This meeting comes nearly 20 years after Campbell’s only win over the Wolfpack, a 72-69 overtime triumph on Dec. 4, 1993 at Reynolds that was sparked by 25 points by CU's Joe Spinks.
Only three players that appeared in the game two seasons ago, Campbell seniors Marvelle Harris and Antonio Kalpic, and redshirt junior Andrew Ryan, are still on either team’s roster.
