No. 30 Camels win at Charleston, 6-2
No. 30 Campbell earned its 40th win of the season behind multiple hits from five different Camels, topping the College of Charleston 6-2 Tuesday afternoon at Patriots Point.
Campbell improved to 40-9 overall with the win, while C of C dips to 26-21 on the season.
The Camels have reached 40 wins in back to back seasons for the first time in school history.
Ben McQuown, Michael Felton, Elijah Trail, Will Albertson and Nick Ray all gathered two hits each for the Camels, with Felton and Albertson both scoring twice. McQuown, Albertson, Michael DeLucia and Jesse Simmons each drove in a run in the win.
Logan Self earned the win in relief, moving to 2-0 after allowing three hits in two innings with a walk and a strikeout. David Olson tossed three scoreless innings for his second save. Coley Thompkins surrendered a run on two hits in two frames. Campbell starter Hector Cedano allowed a run on a hit with two walks and a strikeout in two innings.
The Cougars picked up a run in their first at-bat, loading the bases before Cody Martin’s sacrifice fly brought one home.
The Camels answered in the fourth, loading the bases with one out. Felton scored Campbell’s first run on a bases-loaded wild pitch, then Olson came home on a passed ball to make it 2-1 Camels. With two away in the inning, consecutive hits from Albertson, Ray and Simmons made it 4-1 Campbell.
Olson retired nine straight Cougars to close the game.
Campbell returns home for its final six regular season contests, beginning with Liberty on Friday.
The Liberty series, originally slated for a Saturday doubleheader, has been pushed to a single contest, with the finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. due to Campbell University Spring Commencement ceremonies. Friday and Saturday’s games will be 6 p.m. starts at Jim Perry Stadium.
