Jasmine Dale made a pair of free throws with four seconds left to give Gardner-Webb the lead, 56-54, then Campbell’s D Janelle Brown was off line with a three-pointer at the buzzer giving Gardner-Webb (10-7, 5-3) a Big South win Thursday.

Gardner-Webb hosted the Lady Camels (9-8, 4-4) for an 11 a.m. tip allowing 2,318 elementary school students to fill Paul Porter Arena on Education Day.

Dale’s free throws gave the Lady Bulldogs the lead for the first time since the first half. Gardner-Webb made one field goal in the last five minutes, but erased a 52-46 Campbell lead by sinking eight free throws.

With Campbell clinging to a 54-52 lead with two minutes left, senior forwards Roslyn Presley and Ashley James pulled down offensive rebounds to wind down the clock to under a minute, but a turnover and eventual foul enabled the Bulldogs to pull even on the charity stripe.

Sophomore guard RaeChaun Edwards paced the Lady Camels with 14 points followed by Presley and junior guard Kiera Gaines with 13 and 12, respectively.

Gardner-Webb was led by Dale with 14, while Catrina Green had 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Campbell went on a 23-7 run to build a 38-24 lead with 18:21 left. The Bulldogs were held without a made field goal over a 10-minute stretch due to strong play on the defensive end.

Campbell shot 39.7 percent from the field but just 3 for 15 from three-point range. Free throws proved to be key as Gardner-Webb was 16 of 24 from the line, while Campbell was 5 of 11.

Prior to the second media timeout in the first half the teams were even, Gardner-Webb made the first run to take the lead, 21-9, with just over nine minutes remaining.

A three-pointer from Edwards ended a four-minute scoreless stretch by Campbell and began a 19-2 run going into halftime for the Lady Camels. The first bucket for Presley provided Campbell with momentum and two quick turnovers led to an 8-0 spurt over 70 seconds.

Edwards paced Campbell at the half with 11 points.

Campbell returns to Gore Arena/John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center to face Winthrop at 7 p.m. Thursday.
