Camels offering free basketball tonight
Two of the nation’s top three-point-shooting teams meet this evening with Campbell hosting Charleston Southern for a Big South game at 7 p.m. at Gore Arena. With snow in the forecast, admission will be free for anyone who braves the chill to attend the game.
The Fighting Camels (10-11, 4-2) sit atop the Big South Conference North Division standings. Charleston Southern (9-10, 3-3) is one game off the pace in the South Division.
Campbell enters Wednesday’s game ranked fifth in the country in total three-point attempts (520), 12th in triples made (175) and 24th in 3s made per game (8.3). Charleston Southern ranks second in the nation in threes made per outing (11.1) and total made (211), while ranking 14th in 3-point accuracy (.402).
The game will air live on WCLN 107.3 FM in the Sandhills region with Chris Hemeyer and Jerry Smith on the call.Free live video is also available through the Big South Network at GoCamels.com.
CU is 3-0 at home in Big South action this year, winning its three contests by an average of 3.0 points.The Buccaneers have split two league road contests, falling by at Winthrop (85-68) and winning at Gardner-Webb (78-76).
On Saturday, the Camels dropped a 66-48 decision at Gardner-Webb as CU made just 1-of-19 threes in the second half. Charleston Southern fell at home to Longwood 88-85 despite a career-high 28 points from Matt Kennedy.
Against the Big South, Reco McCarter leads Campbell in scoring (17.5 ppg), followed by Andrew Ryan (12.5), Darius Leonard (10.8) and Leek Leek (10.2).
The Bucs stand fifth nationally in scoring offense (85.7 ppg) and are 7-1 this season when scoring 90-plus points in a game.
Campbell will host a nationally-televised game for the first time on Saturday when ESPNU will air the Coastal Carolina at Campbell contest at 11 a.m..The start time for Saturday’s Liberty at Campbell women’s game has been changed to 2 p.m.
