Crusaders romp by Lee Christian, 80-33
Grace Christian (12-11, 6-4) dominated county-rival Lee Christian for an 80-33 boys basketball win Thursday night at Grace.
The Crusaders scored off the opening tip and never looked back, taking a 19-0 lead and forcing many Falcon turnovers in the first quarter.
Lee Christian’s Graham Terrell stopped the Grace run by hitting a free throw with 2:07 remaining in the first quarter. Forty seven seconds later, he hit a driving layup for Lee’s first field goal of the night. Terrell led the Falcons with 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting, 3-of-4 from 3-point range.
Zach Boggs hit both 3-pointers he attempted in the opening quarter, scoring 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting to start the game. For the game, he was 13-of-19, 4-of-7 from long range, to score 36 points. Boggs scored 10 straight points in the third quarter, eight of them on fast-break layups following Lee Christian turnovers.
Boggs outscored Lee Christian on his own and added several assists when the defense tried to double-team him.
Lee Christian (1-12, 1-8) shot 12-for-48 on the game. By comparison, Grace Christian was 25-of-48 through the first three quarters, before the Crusaders shot 6-of-25 in the fourth, as reserve players tried to hit three pointers. Lee Christian had 31 turnovers on the night.
The Crusaders led 27-5 after the first quarter and 41-17 at the half. Grace Christian then came out of the locker room and forced turnovers on the first five Lee Christian possessions of the third quarter. The Crusaders outscored the Falcons 23 to 3 in the third.
Garrison Weaver was the only other Lee Christian player in double figures, scoring 10 points, including nine in the second quarter.
As if Lee Christian needed any other bad news on the night, Jack Burris left the game with an injured right knee 80 seconds into the game and did not return.
For Grace Christian, Braxton Diekhopf scored 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Robert Fulton added eight points.
