Cavaliers make it back-to-back shutouts

Baseball

Southern Lee 6, Overhills 0

After an 11-0 win over Douglas Byrd on Friday, Southern Lee (7-3, 4-1) made it back-to-back Cape Fear Valley wins via shutouts Tuesday night hosting Overhills (1-9, 1-4).

Connor Gaines got the win on the mound for the Cavaliers. The Cavs travel to face Gray's Creek (10-1, 5-0) tonight at 7 p.m.

The Jaguars played Douglas Byrd last night and will play at Harnett Central tonight at 7 p.m.


Holly Springs 14, Lee County 0

Holly Springs (8-2, 6-2) scored at least two runs in each frame and defeated Lee County (3-6, 3-4) in five innings at Lee County Tuesday night.

The Yellow Jackets host Apex today. The game time has been moved up to 5 p.m.

Grace Christian 17, Community Christian 2

The Crusaders (4-2, 2-0) made it 40 runs in two games, and in their two conference wins, on the road in Wilson Tuesday night. Grace Christian travels to play Faith Christian today at 4:30 p.m.

Western Harnett 13, Westover 1

The Eagles (7-4, 3-3) routed Westover (0-10, 0-5) for a Cape Fear Valley victory in Fayetteville on Tuesday night. Western Harnett is playing in an Easter tournament Monday-Wednesday.

Northwood 6, Pinecrest 1

The Chargers (10-1) made it two wins in two days at the Ashley Spring Break Baseball Tournament in Wilmington on Tuesday. Northwood outhit the Patriots (9-3) 10-4.

The last round of the tournament was yesterday. Northwood will get back into Carolina 12 play at Franklin Academy on Wednesday. Pinecrest will host West Stanly on Tuesday.


Harnett Central 13, Smithfield-Selma 5

The Trojans (7-2, 4-1) slugged for a Greater Neuse River win on the road Tuesday night. The Trojans play at Overhills tonight at 7 p.m.


Cape Fear Christian 12, Wayne Christian 2

Cape Fear Christian (4-3, 2-0) rolled past visiting Wayne Christian in a Carolina Christian contest Tuesday. CFCA plays another CCC game today at Trinity Academy at 4 p.m.


Softball

Overhills 17, Southern Lee 12

The Lady Jaguars (2-7, 2-2) outslugged the Lady Cavaliers (1-6, 1-4) in a Cape Fear Valley game Tuesday evening. Southern Lee hosts Gray's Creek tonight at 6 p.m. Overhills played Douglas Byrd last night and will host Westover on April 9.

Holly Springs 5, Lee County 4

The Lady Jackets led most of the way but couldn't hold off Holly Springs in a Tri-Nine game at Holly Springs Tuesday night.

Lee County (3-6, 2-5) led 3-0 headed to the home half of the sixth. Holly Springs scored four runs in the sixth. Lee County got one to tie in the top of the seventh. Holly Springs answered with the winning run in the bottom half.

Allie Eyers had a triple and three RBI while Nikki Hoover had one RBI for the Lady Jackets.

Lee County played at Western Harnett last night and will play at Apex this evening at 6:30 p.m.


Girls soccer

Community Christian 2, Grace Christian 1

Community Christian (5-2, 4-0) edged the visiting Lady Crusaders (4-4-1, 2-1-0) in a Carolina Christian Conference match Tuesday night. Grace Christian hosts Faith Christian today at 4:30 p.m.

Boys tennis

Richmond 6, Lee County 3

The host Raiders won four singles matches and two doubles matches to defeat the Yellow Jackets Tuesday. Phillip Morie and Dalton Cox earned singles victories for the Jackets and Morie and John Nguyen got the lone doubles win.

Lee County (3-9, 2-7) travels to play Cary in a Tri-Nine match today at 4 p.m.
