Area scores: Crusaders take two at Charger Classic

Baseball

Grace Christian 12, Wayne Country Day 0

The Crusaders swept their two games at the Charger Classic at Wayne Country Day Thursday and Friday.

Against the hosts, Braxton Toro pitched a three-hit complete game. Aaron Ayers hit three doubles and totaled seven RBI. Jonathan Husk hit a home run.

Grace Christian (13-9, 6-1) will play a home game in the Carolina Christian Conference Tournament on Tuesday.


Pinecrest 10, Scotland 3

The Fighting Scots (8-8, 4-4) led 3-1 in the third before the Patriots plated four runs in the home half of frame and went on to a Southeastern Conference win Friday night in Southern Pines.

Tristan Helms (7-0) pitched a complete game for the Patriots. Seth Caddell hit a three-run homer and tallied five RBI.

Pinecrest (17-3, 6-2) is in a three-way tie with Lumberton and Richmond atop the SEC standings. Pinecrest will play at Richmond at 7 p.m. Monday. Pinecrest beat Richmond 5-4 earlier this month in Southern Pines.


Softball

Chatham Central 10, Union Academy 2

The Lady Bears (8-7, 5-6) made it three wins in four days Friday afternoon in a Yadkin Valley game in Monroe.

Chatham Central will host South Davidson for a YVC game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.


Pinecrest 7, Scotland 6 - 9 innings

Pinecrest (11-4, 5-3) led through six innings, had to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, then won in nine innings versus visiting Scotland in a Southeastern Conference game Friday night.

Pinecrest scored two runs to take a 4-2 lead after six innings. Scotland scored four runs in the top of the seventh. The Lady Patriots scored two runs in the home half to force extra innings.

Danielle Gollehon hit a two-run home run for the Lady Patriots while Madison Thum went 2 for 5 with two RBI and Anna Bridgman also added two RBI.

Pinecrest will play at Richmond at 7 p.m. Monday.

Girls soccer

Union Pines 6, Scotland 3

The Lady Vikings (12-2-3, 9-1-0) defeated the visiting Scots Friday night. Union Pines is tied with Terry Sanford atop the CFVC standings. The Lady Vikings and Lady Bulldogs have split for the regular season; both have two CFVC matches to play. Union Pines will play the first of the two at Gray's Creek at 7 p.m. Monday.
