Northwood 10, Cardinal Gibbons 6
In a game with five lead changes, Northwood (8-0, 5-0) took the lead for good with a three-run fifth inning and won a Big Eight game in Raleigh Tuesday afternoon.
Freshman Carson Shaner hit a two-RBI triple in the fifth and went 3 for 4 on the day with two doubles, a triple and three runs.
Anna Jasper (6-0) got the victory in the circle going a complete game with no earned runs, four hits allowed and 10 strikeouts.
The Lady Chargers totaled 14 hits including five doubles. Alexa Bernard went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. Ally McKee went 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI. Courtney Wilson went 2 for 4 with two RBI.
Northwood hosts Northern Durham this evening at 6:30 p.m.
North Stanly 10, Chatham Central 3
North Stanly (5-2, 4-2) rolled past the visiting Lady Bears (2-5, 2-4) in a Yadkin Valley game Tuesday. Chatham Central played at South Davidson yesterday and will host Queen's Grant at 6 p.m. Friday.
North Moore 18, Albemarle 0
The Lady Mustangs (7-0, 5-0) routed Albemarle in a Yadkin Valley game Tuesday. North Moore continued in conference play versus North Stanly last night and the Lady Mustangs will host Gray Stone Day at 6 p.m. Friday.
Triton 13, Smithfield-Selma 3
The Lady Hawks (6-4, 2-1) turned a close game into a rout with seven runs in the home half of the sixth, making it 13-3, for a Two Rivers win over Smithfield-Selma (0-8, 0-3) Tuesday night.
Kasey Matthews went 3 for 4 with two doubles, three runs and two RBI and Gracey Spivey hit a home run while going 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBI.
Lindsey Champion got the win, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing three runs, one being earned.
Triton played at Midway last night and will host Western Harnett at 7 p.m. Friday.
South Johnston 9, Western Harnett 1
South Johnston (9-1, 2-1) beat the visiting Lady Eagles (4-6, 2-1) in a Two Rivers game Tuesday night. Western Harnett hosts Union Pines at 7 p.m. tonight and will go to Triton Friday for a 7 p.m. start.
Clayton 6, Harnett Central 3
Harnett Central (5-3, 3-2) gained a lead with two runs in the top of the third, only for Clayton (6-3, 3-1) to put up three runs in the bottom of the third and go on to win a Greater Neuse River game Tuesday.
The Lady Trojans will host West Johnston at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Jack Britt 12, Overhills 2
The Lady Jaguars briefly took a 2-1 lead with two runs in the top of the second, but Jack Britt (7-4, 4-2) scored five runs in the bottom of the inning and held the Lady Jags from there in a Mid-South Athletic game Tuesday night.
Overhills (3-6, 2-4) will play a league game at South View at 7 p.m. Friday.
Richmond 4, Pinecrest 0
The Lady Raiders (13-0, 4-0) remained perfect with a Southeastern Conference win at Pinecrest (7-3, 2-2) Tuesday night. Richmond took the lead with a pair of runs in the first and second and held the Lady Patriots to four hits on the night. Carmen Love had two of the four Pinecrest hits.
Pinecrest will play an SEC game at Hoke County at 7 p.m. Friday.
Jordan-Matthews 14, Reidsville 0
The Lady Jets (6-4, 3-0) stayed perfect in the Mid-State Conference winning at Reidsville Tuesday evening. Jordan-Matthews will play at Graham at 6 p.m. Friday.
Grace Christian 11, Neuse Christian 1
The Crusaders (6-4, 3-0) remained perfect, beating Neuse Christian in five innings, in Carolina Christian Conference play at home Tuesday afternoon. Shane Farnsworth got the win for the Crusaders.
Grace Christian hosts Hickory Christian today at 4 p.m., then Trinity Academy for a CCC game at 5 p.m. Friday.
Jordan-Matthews 5, Reidsville 0
Nathan Poirier pitched six shutout innings and helped his cause at the plate as the Jets (8-2, 3-0) blanked Reidsville (4-6, 2-2) for the second time this season in Mid-State play at Reidsville Tuesday night.
Poirier hit a three-RBI double to put the Jets in front in the third inning. On the mound, he allowed two hits and a walk while getting six strikeouts. Ethan Cook pitched a scoreless seventh. Robert Tobar went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and a run.
Jordan-Matthews faced Northwood last night and will return to conference play at Graham at 7 p.m. Friday.
North Stanly 2, Chatham Central 0
Visiting North Stanly (6-3, 3-0) scored its runs in the sixth inning and it was enough for a Yadkin Valley win in Bear Creek Tuesday night.
Chase Fuquay was the tough-luck loser for the Bears (3-5, 3-3), going a complete game giving up three hits and three walks while striking out five. The Bears managed one hit on the night.
Chatham Central played at South Stanly last night and will go to Queen's Grant for a YVC game at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
North Moore 7, Albemarle 4
Mustang junior Drake Matthews hit two home runs and drove in five runs leading the Mustangs (5-4, 4-2) to a Yadkin Valley victory over Albemarle (5-2, 4-1) at home Tuesday night.
J.W. Dick got the win, pitching 5.2 innings and giving up three runs. Clay Richardson went 1 for 1 with two walks and scored twice. Kirby Lambert and Colton Troxler added an RBI apiece. North Moore jumped on top with five runs in the third for a 7-3 lead.
The Mustangs will play at Gray Stone Day at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Triton 6, Smithfield-Selma 4
Triton (7-1, 3-0) won its fourth straight game, and a Two Rivers game, at home over the Spartans (3-6, 0-3) Tuesday night.
Trent Fennell pitched six innings for the win. He gave up four runs, two earned runs, and struck out 12. Brett McLamb pitched a scoreless Spartan seventh for a save.
McLamb, Houston Hamilton, Aaron Hedgepeth, Tyler Tyndall and Todd Penny knocked two hits each for the Hawks.
Triton played at Midway last night and will host Western Harnett for a conference game at 7 p.m. Friday.
South Johnston 7, Western Harnett 6
Western Harnett fought back from a 5-0 hole through two innings, eventually tying the game, 6-6, with two runs in the top of the seventh inning only for South Johnston (6-4, 2-1) to score the winning run in the home half of the seventh in a Two Rivers game Tuesday night.
The Eagles (3-7, 1-2) host Union Pines at 7 p.m. tonight and will play a Two Rivers game at Triton at 7 p.m. Friday.
Clayton 13, Harnett Central 5
Clayton (8-1, 5-0) beat the visiting Trojans (6-2, 4-1) in a Greater Neuse River game Tuesday. The Trojans will host West Johnston for a league game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Jack Britt 12, Overhills 0
The Buccaneers (5-4, 3-2) rolled by visiting Overhills (1-8, 1-5) in a Mid-South Athletic game Tuesday night. The Jaguars will play at South View at 7 p.m. Friday.
Pinecrest 5, Richmond 4
Seth Caddell and Carson Maples hit homers in the third inning, taking the Patriots to a 5-1 lead, and Pinecrest (9-3, 2-2) held on to defeat the Raiders (7-3, 3-1) in Southern Pines Tuesday night.
Hunter Phillips (1-0) got the win and Culley Bayless got the save for the Patriots. Richmond scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh but couldn't tie it.
Richmond hosts Southern Lee at 7 p.m. tonight. Pinecrest will play at Hoke County at 7 p.m. Friday.
Cardinal Gibbons 15, Northwood 2
After a tie game through two innings, the Crusaders (7-2, 1-1) scored 14 runs in the third inning to take a 15-1 lead and go on to a five-inning Big Eight win in Raleigh Tuesday afternoon.
Northwood (4-6, 2-3) played at Jordan-Matthews last night and will host J.F. Webb for a league game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Northwood Temple 9, Cape Fear Christian 2
Northwood Temple (5-2, 4-0) stayed undefeated in Carolina Christian play Tuesday in Fayetteville. Cape Fear Christian plays at Trinity of Fayetteville at 4 p.m. today.
Grace Christian 7, Crossroads Christian 2
The Lady Crusaders (9-0, 4-0) kept rolling through the Carolina Christian with a win at Crossroads Christian Tuesday afternoon.
Torie Boyte, Madison Bolen and Jazmine Urrutia scored two goals each and Charity Taylor scored one for the Lady Crusaders. Bolen had two assists while Boyte, Urrutia, Lexi Carver, Bridgette Angeles and Taylor Raines had one assist each.
Grace Christian hosts Hickory Christian at 4 p.m. today.
South Johnston 2, Western Harnett 1
South Johnston edged the Lady Eagles in a Two Rivers match Tuesday night in Four Oaks. The Lady Eagles (2-4, 0-3) will host Cleveland at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Pine Forest 1, Overhills 0
Pine Forest (7-3, 5-2) completed a regular-season sweep of the Lady Jaguars in Spring Lake Tuesday night. Pine Forest won the Fayetteville meeting 2-0. Overhills (3-7, 3-4) plays at South View at 7 p.m. tonight.
Pinecrest 5, Richmond 4
The Patriots (10-2, 9-0) clinched the Southeastern Conference season championship with a victory at Richmond (10-2, 7-2) Tuesday afternoon. Pinecrest has defeated Richmond 5-4 in both meetings this season.
Overhills 7, Seventy-First 2
The Jaguars won a Mid-South Athletic match at Seventy-First Tuesday. Overhills plays at Pine Forest at 4:30 p.m. today.
