Lee Christian hosted its first-ever middle school cross country meet, with over 75 runners from five teams gathering for 3K races on a course throughout Kiwanis Family Park on a bright, humid Thursday afternoon.

It's the first season the Falcons have middle school squads and the first season for Grace Christian, which has only a girls' team so far. The meet was Lee Christian's first and first home competition.

A long coach-to-runner meeting detailing the course went well. There were loud cheers for the first-place runners as well as those who struggled in the heat many minutes after the winners. Quite a lot of water, fruit and other rations were needed after the races were complete.

East Wake Academy, with huge rosters in both races, prevailed in the team competitions versus Lee Christian, Grace Christian, Cresset Christian and the Chatham Thunder. East Wake's Timothy Garner won the boys' race in 12:35 and East Wake's Haley Turner won the girls' race in 14:08.

Lee Christian's top two boys' runners were Solomon Bruton, finishing in 16:35, and Elijah Riddle, in 17:19.

In the girls' race, Grace Christian's Scarlett Prater finished in 18:30, Lee Christian's Jaycie Savage crossed the line in 18:33, Grace Christian's Kristen Dukeman finished in 18:53 and Lee Christian's Miriam Torres finished in 21:25.

Lee Christian is slated to hold home varsity meets at Kiwanis Family Park on Sept. 30 and Oct. 15.
