Lady Falcons, Lady Crusaders create All-Sanford title match
Lee Christian and Grace Christian prevailed in the semifinals of the Carolina Christian Conference girls soccer tournament Thursday at Wayne Christian School to make Friday night’s CCC championship game a neighborhood rivalry.
No. 4-seeded Lee Christian (8-7) blanked season-champion Trinity Academy of Raleigh 3-0. No. 3 Grace Christian (11-8-2) beat No. 2 Community Christian 4-3 in overtime.
Trinity Academy beat the Lady Falcons 2-1 back in Lee Christian’s opening match of the season on March 4. Community Christian beat Grace Christian 2-1 three weeks ago.
The Lady Crusaders topped Lee Christian 7-2 in the regular season at Grace on March 25. It’ll be the first CCC tournament match between the city rivals as Grace Christian is in its second season in the CCC and this is Lee Christian’s inaugural season in the CCC.
The Lady Falcons, who started the season 0-4, have a four-match winning streak going heading into Friday night’s final.
Grace Christian 11, Wayne Christian 3
In the Carolina Christian Conference baseball semifinals in Goldsboro Thursday night, the No. 3 Crusaders rolled past the host and No. 2 seed Wayne Christian, avenging a 7-4 Wayne Christian win from a couple of weeks ago.
The Crusaders (13-7) advanced into Friday night’s championship game against No. 1 Cape Fear Christian.
Grace Christian dropped four of five games before going on a five-game winning streak through the semifinal victory. The Crusaders are ranked No. 4 in the NCISAA 1A state poll and if that seeding holds or improves, Grace Christian would earn a first-round bye, then a quarterfinal home game, for the 12-school NCISAA State Tournament.
