Lady Crusader saves best for state meet
Grace Christian freshman Madison Bolen finished an outstanding cross country season for herself and the Crusaders as a whole by running to a runner-up place in the NCISAA 1A State Championships last Friday at Hagan Stone Park in Pleasant Garden.
Bolen finished second in a field of 43 runners from 12 schools in a time of 21:36.63. It was a new personal record for Bolen.
Earlier this season, Bolen won the individual championship in the Carolina Christian Conference with a time of 22:03 at the conference championship meet.
The Lady Crusaders won the conference championship and placed fourth as a team in the state championship. Jazmine Urrutia and Katie Cook also were scoring runners in the state meet. Other Lady Crusader runners are Lexi Carver, Hannah Scully, Karson Holder and Taylor Raines.
Grace Christian's boys team also competed at the state meet. Matthew Bolen, who medaled with a fifth-place finish in the CCC meet, finished 23rd in a personal-best time of 21:06 at the state championship. The rest of the Crusader team is Wesley Holder, Iden Swartzentruber, John Christiansen and Andy Gong, a foreign exchange student from China.
