Grace Christian 53, Salem Baptist 25

Grace Christian started its season Friday night hosting the Sanford Shootout. The Lady Crusaders finished runner-up in the NCISAA 1A State Tournament and went undefeated through the Carolina Christian Conference a season ago.

Senior Anna Murr led the Lady Crusaders with 18 points and six rebounds in the season-opener. Murr made four three-pointers. Alexis Ross had 11 points, six rebounds and three steals. Torie Boyte had 10 points and Karimda Farrant added seven points.

Grace Christian 55, Concord First Assembly 51

Grace Christian (2-0) won the Sanford Shootout Saturday with a tight win. Anna Murr scored 21 points, including going 17-for-21 at the free-throw line, and was named tournament MVP.

Concord First Assembly led 11-6 after a quarter. The Lady Crusaders led 24-22 at halftime and 44-35 going to the fourth quarter. Murr scored 17 of her 21 points in the second half.

Madison Bolen had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Crusaders. Ross scored 10 points. Farrant had seven points, nine rebounds and five assists.

The Lady Crusaders will host New Life at 6 p.m. Tuesday.


Coastal Christian 48, Cape Fear Christian 37

Cape Fear Christian opened its season Friday evening with a road trip to Wilmington. Coastal Christian (2-0) led 43-24 through three quarters.

The Lady Eagles (0-1) will play their home opener versus Grace Christian at 6 p.m. Friday.


Boys basketball

O'Neal 48, Grace Christian (Raleigh) 39

O'Neal (1-1) trailed 22-21 at halftime before getting its first win of the season at home Friday night. The Falcons will play at Grace Christian in Sanford at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
