Aaron Ayers pitched four shutout innings and Micah Welborn led Grace Christian's slugging with four RBI as the Crusaders (9-7, 5-1) beat visiting Northwood Temple 15-0 in five innings in a Carolina Christian Conference game Friday afternoon.

Grace Christian sent 16 batters to the plate in route to a 10-0 first-inning lead with Ayers and Micah Welborn doing most of the damage. Northwood Temple's defense was no help to starting pitcher Chance Chavis who didn't get out of the opening inning.
The Crusaders padded their lead with five more runs in the second inning. Micah Welborn hit a two-run single accompanied by four walks in the inning.
Ayers finished with a one-hitter with four strikeouts. Iden Swartzentruber escaped a bases-loaded jam in the Northwood Temple fifth to preserve the shutout.
Caleb Welborn, Braxton Toro and Ayers scored three runs apiece for the Crusaders.
Gabe Wright pitched two scoreless innings and Bradley Wilson reached base twice for the Eagles.
The Crusaders will play in the 2014 Chatlee Easter Invitational later this spring-break week. Grace Christian will take on co-host Union Pines (10-6, 7-3 Cape Fear Valley) on the first night of the tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday in Cameron.
