Lady Crusaders play for state title Saturday in Charlotte

Grace Christian's girls' basketball team (30-3) will play for the state championship today after advancing through the NCISAA 1A semifinals last night with a 60-55 win over previously-undefeated Oakwood School (19-1) at Covenant Day School.

The No. 2-seeded Lady Crusaders led from late in the first period on, usually by double digits through the last three quarters against their foe from Greenville, the tourney's third seed.

Grace Christian led 37-21 at halftime. Oakwood closed within a 51-43 Lady Crusader margin going to the fourth quarter, then within seven points with five minutes left in the game. The Lady Crusaders pulled away again to a double-digit lead before Oakwood cut Grace's lead down in the closing seconds.

Grace Christian will play No. 1 Trinity Christian today at 10 a.m. at Providence Day School in Charlotte. The Lady Crusaders, season and tournament champs of the Carolina Christian Conference, take a 13-game winning streak into the championship game.

Trinity Christian (19-5) advanced through the state tournament with a 57-32 win over No. 8 Hickory Christian in the quarters and a 53-27 win over No. 4 Hobgood Academy yesterday.
