Six Lady Crusaders scored goals as Grace Christian (12-1, 6-0), winning for the third time in four afternoons, finished a busy week with an 8-1 win over visiting Northwood Temple in a Carolina Christian Conference soccer match on Friday.
Freshman midfielder Madison Bolen scored two goals and gave out four assists for another standout game. Joining Bolen in the Lady Crusader attack, Julia Husk scored two goals - coming less than 60 seconds apart sparking a 5-0 Lady Crusader scoring spree in a 10-minute stretch partway through the first half - Taylor Raines, Alexis Hunt, Karinda Farrant and Torie Boyte scored one goal each.
The two sides traded scoring opportunities in the opening minutes but the Lady Crusaders quickly turned one attack into the lead.
Bolen struck a hard left-footed shot toward goal and it was knocked down via a Northwood Temple handball in the box. Bolen made the ensuing penalty kick look simple with a hard, low shot for a 1-0 Grace Christian lead in the seventh minute.
The Lady Eagles carried some of the action into the Lady Crusader box. They forced keeper Victoria Druther into one save, then Druther saved another, tipping a long shot just enough to redirect it off the crossbar.
Soon though, as in most of Grace Christian's previous CCC matches, the Lady Crusaders had virtually all of the possession and all of the attacking.
In the 17th minute, a few seconds after Bolen nearly put a free kick into the net, Bolen slipped a soft pass to Husk as she beat a defender on the run into the middle of the box. Husk touched the ball by the oncoming Lady Eagle keeper for the goal.
In the next minute, the Lady Crusaders were on the run again. Boyte chipped a cross from the right side of the Eagle box and Husk volleyed the ball cleanly into the net from the top of the six-yard box making it 3-0 Lady Crusaders.
The Lady Crusaders turned the match into a blowout with three quick goals a few minutes later.
Bolen, after Raines and Farrant kept a Grace possession going, fired a 22-yard strike low into the Lady Eagle goal for a 4-0 lead. Raines scored the next goal, shooting in a bouncing cross from Bolen in from the right side to the front of the goal. Hunt scored the sixth Lady Crusader goal, hitting a long shot through traffic and into the net off a corner kick taken by Bolen.
Northwood Temple converted a penalty kick in the 35th minute and it was 6-1 at halftime.
The Lady Crusaders added two goals in the last three minutes. Farrant one-timed a pass from Bolen into the roof of the net from a few yards away, then Farrant touched a pass to Boyte and Boyte found the goal from a tight angle in the right side of the penalty area.
After a run of playing three matches a week for the last three weeks, the Lady Crusaders are off for their spring break this week. Grace Christian will finish its regular season the following week starting with a home match versus The Oakwood School on April 22.
