Area scores: Yellow Jackets keep streak going on Mother's Night
Lee County 12, Cary 7
The Yellow Jackets (10-9, 5-5 Cape Fear Valley) won on their Mother's Night and ran their winning streak to four games Thursday.
Lee County also avenged a 4-3 loss to the Imps (2-15, 0-10 Southwestern Wake Athletic) from back on Feb. 27.
The Jackets exploded for a 10-run third inning to take an 11-3 lead.
Pressley Hales, Nolan Groce and Tyler Thomas had two RBI apiece. Hales, Hampton Thomas and Austin Bullock shared the pitching duties.
Lee County will play its regular-season home finale and Father's Night game versus Westover at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Grace Christian 8, Greenfield 1
Grace Christian (12-9, 6-1 Carolina Christian) scored four runs in the top of the first and continued on past Greenfield on the first day of a tournament at Wayne Country Day School Thursday.
Micah Welborn pitched a complete game, giving up six hits and striking out seven.
Nathan Holt went 3 for 4 at the plate and Paul Bordelon went 2 for 2.
The Crusaders played Wayne Country Day yesterday. The Carolina Christian Conference Tournament will begin Monday.
South Johnston 7, Western Harnett 4 - 9 innings
South Johnston (11-7, 6-2) scored three runs in the top of the ninth to win at Western Harnett (7-12, 3-5) Thursday night.
Both squads scored four runs in the fifth and that was it except for the Trojan ninth.
The Eagles will host Triton for a Two Rivers game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Triton 12, Smithfield-Selma 1
The Hawks (12-4, 7-1) remained a game ahead of South Johnston atop the Two Rivers Conference standings with a five-inning win Thursday night.
Freshman Aaron Hedgepeth pitched a complete game allowing three hits and getting 10 strikeouts.
Tyler Vaughn went 3 for 4 with a double, a run and two RBI for the Hawks. Tyler Tyndall and Tanner Ferguson had two hits and two runs each.
Triton and South Johnston split for the regular season. The Hawks host Harnett Central at 5 p.m. this evening.
North Moore 7, Queen's Grant 4
The Mustangs (12-8, 8-3) rallied by the visiting Stallions in a Yadkin Valley game in Robbins Thursday night.
North Moore traded a run with the Stallions in the fifth, leaving Queen's Grant ahead 4-3, then scored four in the home half of the sixth.
Drake Matthews allowed one unearned run in three innings on the mound for the win. Matthew Spivey pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.
Matthews went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI. Kirby Lambert went 2 for 4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI.
North Moore will play at North Stanly at 7 p.m. Monday.
East Wake Academy 10, Chatham Charter 8
East Wake Academy earned a season split with the Knights Thursday afternoon in Siler City. Chatham Charter plays at Lee Christian at 2 p.m. today.
Chatham Charter 15, East Wake Academy 7
After an 11-10 loss to East Wake Academy earlier this season, the Lady Knights rallied in the last three innings to win in Siler City Thursday afternoon.
Chatham Charter scored three runs to take an 8-7 lead in the fifth, then scored seven runs in the sixth.
The Lady Knights played Lee Christian yesterday and will host Village Christian at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Triton 12, Smithfield-Selma 2
The Lady Hawks (11-6, 5-3) slugged their way to a Two Rivers win on the road Thursday.
Emma Thomas had two doubles, scored three runs and drove in four RBI. Erica Occena went 3 for 4 with a triple, a run and an RBI. Kasey Matthew went 2 for 3 with a double, three runs and an RBI and Lindsey Champion went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs and two RBI.
Triton led 7-1 after two innings and scored in all five frames.
Triton hosts Harnett Central at 5 p.m. this evening.
South Johnston 11, Western Harnett 2
South Johnston (15-2, 7-1) topped the Lady Eagles (5-11, 3-5) in a Two Rivers game Thursday night.
Western Harnett's Vanessa Kokoszka hit a home run.
The Lady Eagles will host Triton at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
North Moore 18, Queen's Grant 0
The Lady Mustangs (13-1, 10-1) routed Queen's Grant in a Yadkin Valley game Thursday in Matthews.
North Moore hosts the Mustang Classic today and will host West Montgomery at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Jordan-Matthews 3, Providence Grove 2
The Lady Jets (11-4, 6-0 Mid-State) edged former conference mate Providence Grove (8-7, 5-2 PAC-6) for the second time this season Thursday in Siler City.
Jordan-Matthews hosted Carrboro last night and will host Northwood at 6 p.m. Monday.
Triton 8, Smithfield-Selma 1
Triton sophomore Morgan Goff scored seven goals and the Lady Hawks (10-4-1, 5-2-0) rolled in a Two Rivers match Thursday.
Emily Neville had a goal and two assists. Barbara Godwin had two assists. The Lady Hawks led 3-0 at halftime.
Triton will play at Western Harnett at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
South Johnston 2, Western Harnett 1
South Johnston (3-8, 3-5) completed a regular-season sweep, both in 2-1 results, at Western Harnett (3-9, 0-8) Thursday night.
The Lady Eagles will host Triton at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
North Moore 2, Chatham Central 1
North Moore (3-4-2, 3-4-1) edged the Lady Bears (2-9, 2-5) in Bear Creek Thursday evening. North Moore will play a Yadkin Valley match at North Stanly at 6:30 p.m. Monday while Chatham Central will play a YVC match at South Stanly at 6 p.m. Monday.
Reidsville 4, Jordan-Matthews 1
Reidsville (9-4-1, 4-1-0) took a regular-season sweep of the Lady Jets (5-8-1, 3-4-0) in a Mid-State match in Siler City Thursday. Jordan-Matthews will play at Carrboro at 6 p.m. Monday.
Northwood 3, Orange 0
The Lady Chargers (8-5, 5-3) blanked visiting Orange (6-10, 3-6) in a Big Eight match Thursday evening. Northwood played Southern Durham last night and will host Cedar Ridge at 6:45 p.m. Monday.
