Lady Crusaders roll by county rival

Grace Christian (21-2, 8-1) overwhelmed visiting Lee Christian, 64-27, in a girls basketball contest Thursday night.

The Lady Crusaders remained perfect at home, moving to 11-0. They also won their tenth straight game dating back to the start of 2014.
Grace Christian jumped on Lee Christian from the opening tip, scoring on a fast break six seconds into the contest. The Crusaders forced turnovers on the first six Falcon possessions and 10 of the first 11.
Down 21-0, Lee Christian’s Hannah Lee hit a free throw with 21.1 seconds remaining in the first quarter to get the Lady Falcons on the board.  
Lee Christian turned the ball over 17 times in the first quarter and went 0-for-6 from the field. Grace Christian blocked three of Lee’s six shot attempts and tipped several passes, leading to fast-break layups. The Lady Crusaders forced 37 turnovers for the game.
Grace Christian didn’t have a strong shooting game, going just 22-for-67 from the field. The Crusaders had a lopsided edge on the offensive boards, often getting two and three shots on a possession.
Anna Murr hit three shots from 3-point range in the first quarter, scoring 11 of her 23 points in the opening frame. She was 5-of-11 from long range for the game.
Haley Draughn hit Lee Christian’s first field goal of the game, 4:02 before halftime, to cut the Grace lead to 30-4. She added three 3-pointers and a layup before the half, hitting all five of Lee Christian’s first-half shots. Draughn scored all 13 of her points in that four-plus minute stretch at the end of the second quarter, and her five field goals were more than the rest of the team made in the entire game.
Grace Christian led 36-14 at the half and outscored Lee Christian 18-4 in the third quarter. Sophomore Alexis Ross scored 23 for Grace Christian, tying Murr for the game-high. Karimda Farrant added 8 and Abby Strickland 6.
The Lady Crusaders finish their regular season slate Friday night hosting Cape Fear Christian at 6 p.m.
