Pinecrest scores two late to edge Cavs
Pinecrest 3, Southern Lee 2
The Patriots (3-0) scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and edged the visiting Cavaliers (3-1) Wednesday evening in Southern Pines.
Tristan Helms (2-0) got the win on the mound and Seth Caddell got the save. Bailey Benton had two RBI singles for the Patriots.
Christian Wenger pitched 5.2 innings for the Cavs and got a tough loss. Wenger allowed five hits and three runs, one being earned, while getting six strikeouts and no walks. Wenger also went 2 for 3 with an RBI at the plate.
Ryan Holmes and Cullen Boyette scored the Cavalier runs. Ben Gaster had an RBI.
Pinecrest plays at Asheboro today at 5 p.m. The Patriots defeated Asheboro 6-1 last week.
Southern Lee will open Cape Fear Valley Conference action at Douglas Byrd at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Northwood 11, Uwharrie Charter 1
The Chargers (1-1) cruised at home Wednesday evening. Northwood played Cedar Ridge in a Big Eight game last night and is slated to host Southern Alamance at 6 p.m. this evening.
Harnett Central 16, Overhills 1
The Trojans (1-1) routed the Jaguars (0-3) Wednesday in Angier. The Harnett County contests continue this evening with Overhills hosting Western Harnett at 5 p.m. and Harnett Central playing at Triton at 7 p.m.
Pinecrest 7, East Montgomery 5
Freshman Jordan Blake pitched a complete game for the Lady Patriots while going 3 for 4 at the plate with three RBI in a win over the Lady Eagles (2-1) Wednesday in Southern Pines.
Sophomore Madison Thum went 2 for 3 with two doubles and three RBI for Pinecrest (3-0).
Pinecrest's game yesterday versus Southern Lee was postponed, as has been Pinecrest vs. North Moore today. Next on the slate, the Lady Patriots will visit East Montgomery for a 4:30 p.m. start Monday.
Harnett Central 12, Overhills 2
The Lady Jaguars (1-2) scored twice in the fourth for a 2-1 lead before the Lady Trojans (1-1) posted five runs in the home half of the fourth and six more in the fifth to win via mercy rule Wednesday in Angier.
Harnett Central plays at Triton at 7 p.m. tonight. Overhills hosts Western Harnett at 6 p.m. tonight.
Jordan-Matthews 5, West Montgomery 4
The Lady Jets (2-1) claimed a season sweep over West Montgomery (0-2) Wednesday in Siler City. Jordan-Matthews plays at Union Pines at 6 p.m. this evening.
Southern Lee 9, Douglas Byrd 0
The Lady Cavaliers stormed to a 7-0 lead by halftime and won their Cape Fear Valley Conference opener at Douglas Byrd (0-2, 0-1) Wednesday night.
Junior Kasslynn Ansted scored a hat trick while Laurynn Ansted, Karina Guardado, Yesi Mondragon, Katelyn Campbell and Emma Langston scored a goal apiece. Rosa Aguirre, Yusima Arista, Ashley Young, Campbell, L. Ansted and Langston had one assist each.
The Lady Cavaliers (1-1, 1-0) will travel to face Gray's Creek at 7 p.m. Monday.
Gray's Creek 2, Lee County 0
Gray's Creek (2-1, 1-0) scored two goals in the first half and got a Cape Fear Valley Conference win at Lee County Wednesday night.
Junior goalkeeper Maritza Santos made 20 saves for the Lady Yellow Jackets.
Jalyn Taylor and Kayie Caylor scored the Lady Bear goals.
Lee County (0-1, 0-1) will play at Douglas Byrd at 7 p.m. Monday.
Jordan-Matthews 2, Chatham Central 1
The Lady Jets (1-1) got a goal in each half for a 2-0 lead, then held on for a county rivalry win at Chatham Central (0-1) Wednesday night.
Madison Pleasants scored putting the Lady Jets ahead in the 23rd minute. Cristina Cetino made it 2-0 with a goal in the 73rd minute. Lupita Gomez scored the Lady Bear goal in the final minutes.
Jordan-Matthews played Reidsville last night and will host Providence Grove at 6 p.m. Monday.
Chatham Central will host West Montgomery at 6 p.m. Monday.
Pinecrest 2, Southeast Guilford 1
The Lady Patriots (2-0) won at Southeast Guilford (0-1) Wednesday night. Pinecrest will open Southeastern Conference play hosting Purnell Swett at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets won the first CFVC golf match of the season Wednesday afternoon at Sanford Golf Course. Lee County's Walter Brinker shot a two-over par 73 to win the medalist honor.
Ben Chrysler of Union Pines shot 74. Alex Palme of Southern Lee and Dalton Mauldin of Lee County each shot 79.
The next conference match is set for Monday afternoon at The National Golf Club in Aberdeen.

The Patriots (0-3) fell to the Mustangs (3-0) Wednesday night in Cary. Pinecrest hosts Fuquay-Varina at 6 p.m. this evening.
