Area scores: Providence Grove outlasts Bears in 12

Providence Grove 11, Chatham Central 5 - 12 inn.

Providence Grove (2-1) scored six runs in the top of the 12th inning to win in Bear Creek Monday night.

Starting in the sixth inning, the Bears scored once in the sixth and twice in the seventh to rally and force extra innings. Tyler Welch went 3 for 5 at the plate with a double, a run and an RBI and Zack Burke went 3 for 6 with a run for the Bears.

The Bears (0-2) hosted Albemarle last night and will play at Gray Stone Day at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Jordan-Matthews 7, Eastern Randolph 6

The Jets plated a run, with a squeeze play, in the top of the seventh to take the lead and top rival Eastern Randolph Monday night at Eastern Randolph.

Drew Hinshaw led the Jet hitting going 3 for 4 with three RBI. Eastern Randolph outhit the Jets 11-6.

The Jets (2-1) played Riverside last night and will host Reidsville to begin Mid-State Conference play at 7 p.m. Friday.

Millbrook 7, Pinecrest 1

Millbrook built a 6-0 lead in the first two innings and won at Pinecrest Monday night. The Patriots (3-1) play at Fuquay-Varina at 5 p.m. today.

Cape Fear 10, Triton 0

The host Colts (3-0) held the Hawks (3-1) to one hit as senior Justin Huggins pitched a five-inning complete game. Triton will host Midway at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Harnett Central 4, Western Harnett 0

The Trojans (2-1) blanked the visiting Eagles (2-2) in a county rivalry game Monday night in Angier. Harnett Central has back-to-back wins while the Eagles have been shut out in two straight games.

Harnett Central plays at Overhills at 7 p.m. tonight. Western Harnett plays at Union Pines at 7 p.m. tonight.


Pinecrest 7, East Montgomery 5

The Lady Patriots (4-0) completed a back-to-back sweep over East Montgomery (2-2) Monday evening on the road.

Senior Bobbie McDaniel pitched a complete game and hit a three-run homer. Jordan Blake went 2 for 3 with a home run, two runs and two RBI.

Pinecrest will host Lee County at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Cape Fear 6, Triton 0

Triton (3-1) had scored 15 or more runs in each of its three wins until Cape Fear (3-0) shut out the Lady Hawks Monday at Cape Fear. The Lady Hawks managed two hits on the night. Triton hosts Cape Fear tonight at 7 p.m.

Girls soccer

Lee County 7, Douglas Byrd 0

Seniors Madison Hunter and Andi Jiminez scored two goals each as the Lady Yellow Jackets (1-1, 1-1) got their first-ever Cape Fear Valley Conference win at Douglas Byrd Monday night. The Lady Jackets led 3-0 at halftime.

Caitlin Claffey, Alicia Bernabe and Daniela Avina had a goal each. Hunter had two assists while Claffey, Bernabe, Avina and Jiminez tallied one assist each.

Lee County hosts Union Pines for a CFVC match at 7 p.m. tonight.

Southern Lee 3, Gray's Creek 2

The Lady Cavaliers (2-1, 2-0) won the second half 2-1 to earn a league victory on the road at Gray's Creek (3-2, 1-1) Monday night.

Southern Lee hosts Chatham Central at 6 p.m. this evening.

Union Pines 3, Terry Sanford 2

Union Pines (1-0-1, 1-0-0) opened CFVC play edging Terry Sanford (0-2, 0-1) Monday night in Cameron. The Lady Vikings play at Lee County at 7 p.m. tonight.

West Montgomery 1, Chatham Central 0

The Lady Warriors got the winning goal in the second half and the Lady Bears (0-2) suffered their second one-goal loss to open the season Monday evening at Chatham Central. Chatham Central plays at Southern Lee at 6 p.m. this evening.

Jordan-Matthews 1, Providence Grove 1

The Lady Jets (1-1-1) drew versus visiting Providence Grove in a non-conference match Monday. Elisa Romero scored the Lady Jet goal.

Jordan-Matthews plays at Northwood at 6 p.m. this evening.

Cape Fear 4, Triton 3

Cape Fear (3-1) edged the visiting Lady Hawks (2-1-1) Monday night. Triton plays at Clinton at 7 p.m. tonight.

Union Academy 9, North Moore 0

Union Academy (1-2-1, 1-0-0) rolled by visiting North Moore in a YVC match Monday. The Lady Mustangs (0-1-1, 0-1-0) host South Davidson for a YVC game today at 6 p.m.

Clayton 1, Harnett Central 0

The Lady Comets (2-1, 1-0) scored a goal in the second half and beat visiting Harnett Central (1-2, 0-1) in a GNRC match Monday. Harnett Central hosts Southeast Raleigh for a league match at 6:30 p.m. this evening.

Union Pines won the second CFVC match of the season after finishing fourth last week in a match at Sanford Golf Course. Lee County won the season-opener and placed second at The National Monday afternoon.

Dalton Whales of Union Pines was the low medalist shooting a one-over par 73. Lee County's Walter Brinker shot a 74. Union Pines' Ben Chrysler shot 75. Rohun Shah of Terry Sanford shot 76. Lee County's Dalton Mauldin and UP's  Bryan D'Ostlepher shot rounds of 79.

Boys tennis

North Moore 7, Chatham Central 2

The Mustangs won five of six singles matches, with victories by Josh Jones, Danny Garcia, Austin Hunsucker, Jacob Marley and Christian Jeffries, to earn a Yadkin Valley Conference win over the Bears Monday.

North Moore (4-0, 4-0) played Jordan-Matthews yesterday and will host East Montgomery at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Chatham Central will host Jordan-Matthews at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Garner 5, Harnett Central 4

The Garner Trojans edged the Harnett Central Trojans at Garner Monday afternoon.

Harnett Central (0-2, 0-2) continued Greater Neuse River play hosting East Wake yesterday and will host Rolesville today at 3:30 p.m.
