Boys basketball

Union Pines 54, Lee County 46

Union Pines outscored visiting Lee County (17-4, 7-3) 21-6 in the fourth quarter to overturn a seven-point deficit heading to the last eight minutes and win, 54-46, in a Cape Fear Valley Conference game Monday night.

Junior guard Armani McCoy led the Vikings with 23 points. Malik Crawford scored 11 points with Luke Davis getting 10 and Tyler Packer adding six for the Vikings (10-13, 3-8).

Dewaun McEachin led the Yellow Jackets with 14 points and five rebounds. Namique Farrow added nine points.

The Vikings were scheduled to conclude their CFVC regular season at Gray’s Creek last night.

Lee County has rescheduled home games set for last night and Thursday. Lee County will host Westover at 7:30 p.m. Friday, then host Southern Lee in the regular-season finale at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.


Chatham Central 70, East Montgomery 61

Chatham Central (9-9, 5-5) improved to 2-1 versus the Eagles this season, splitting the Yadkin aValley games, on Monday in Bear Creek. The Bears got out to a 22-8 lead in the first quarter and still led by 14 going to the fourth quarter.

Chatham Central was scheduled to play at South Davidson last night and will play at North Moore at 7:30 p.m. Friday.


Triton 62, South Johnston 59

Triton remained atop the Two Rivers Conference with a win after trailing, 33-29, at South Johnston (9-12, 2-6) Monday night in Four Oaks.

Dequill Avery led the Hawks (15-5, 7-1) with 17 points. Chris Eason added 15 points and nine rebounds. Nick Parker and D'Angelo Harris combined for 13 assists.

The Hawks have won six straight games, sweep South Johnston for the regular season and lead Cleveland by a game in the league standings, having a split already versus the Rams.

Triton was slated to play at Western Harnett last night and are scheduled to host Corinth Holders at 8 p.m. Thursday.


Richmond 68, Pinecrest 63 - OT

Richmond (13-7, 5-3) edged the visiting Patriots (6-13, 3-5) Monday night for a regular-season split in the Southeastern Conference series.

Stephon Stephens led the Patriots with 23 points and Brandon Harrell scored 17 points.

Pinecrest will host a rescheduled game versus Lumberton at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, then host Hoke County at 7:30 p.m. Friday.


Albemarle 74, North Moore 53

Albemarle (19-1, 9-0) rolled to a win at North Moore Monday to remain undefeated in the Yadkin Valley. The Mustangs (13-8, 10-2) were set to play West Montgomery last night and will host Chatham Central at 7:30 p.m. Friday.


Girls basketball

Union Pines 61, Lee County 48

First-place Union Pines (19-3, 10-1) clinched at least a share of the Cape Fear Valley Conference's girls basketball season championship Monday evening with a 61-48 win over visiting Lee County (6-15, 2-8).

Stephanie Johnson led the Lady Vikings offensively with 17 points. Fellow post player Tiffany Hicks tallied eight points, 24 rebounds and three blocks for UP.

Nyona Shields added 16 points and Maresa Smith scored eight. The Lady Vikings led 27-23 at halftime and 41-35 going to the fourth period before pulling away.

Sophomore guard Shantel Bennett led the Lady Jackets with 20 points and four assists. Tara Speelman scored nine points. Tashari Wells-Tucker and Noelle Beattie got nine rebounds each.

Through Monday night's schedule, the Lady Vikings led Terry Sanford (8-2 CFVC) in the CFVC standings. Terry Sanford gave UP its only league loss last week.

Lee County has rescheduled home games set for last night and Thursday. Lee County will host Westover at 6 p.m. Friday, then host Southern Lee at 6 p.m. Saturday.


Chatham Central 51, East Montgomery 22

The Lady Bears led by a bucket after one quarter, 7-5, before routing visiting East Montgomery Monday evening in a Yadkin Valley game. Chatham Central (12-8, 9-3) were scheduled to play at South Davidson last night. The Lady Bears will visit North Moore Friday for a 6 p.m. tip.


Knightdale 55, Harnett Central 28

Knightdale (14-5, 7-3) got out to a 13-0 lead through one quarter and continued on to a Greater Neuse River win at Harnett Central (9-12, 4-8) Monday night.

Madison Turlington had eight points, seven rebounds and three steals and Mariah McLean had seven points and three assists for Harnett Central.

The Lady Trojans were scheduled to host East Wake last night and will play at West Johnston at 6 p.m. Friday.


South Johnston 50, Triton 27

South Johnston (17-4, 8-0) stayed perfect in the Two Rivers versus visiting Triton Monday night.

Kadizah Gauldin had seven points and Tarica Worney had six points for the Lady Hawks. South Johnston held Triton to seven points or fewer in each quarter.

Triton (7-13, 3-5) was slated to play at Western Harnett last night and will host Corinth Holders at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.


Richmond 53, Pinecrest 36

Richmond (12-5, 6-2) completed a regular-season sweep over the Lady Patriots (6-12, 3-5) at Richmond Monday evening.

Pinecrest will host Lumberton in a make-up game at 6 p.m. Thursday.


Albemarle 74, North Moore 47

Albemarle (18-3 overall) jumped out to a 28-5 lead by the end of the first quarter and rolled to a Yadkin Valley win at North Moore (7-13, 5-8) Monday night.

The Lady Mustangs were scheduled to play West Montgomery last night and they will host Chatham Central at 6 p.m. Friday.
