The Cavaliers got their first victory of the season on the road in Laurinburg Wednesday night. The Cavs built a 37-25 lead by halftime and kept going to a 53-35 lead through three quarters.
Southern Lee (1-4) opens up Cape Fear Valley Conference play Tuesday night at Western Harnett at 8 p.m.
Triton 85, Western Harnett 43
Triton (5-1) rolled past the visiting Eagles, using a 21-1 second quarter to take a 36-14 halftime lead Wednesday night in Erwin. Triton is 3-0 over Western Harnett this season.
Junior forward Chris Eason had 16 points, four rebounds and three assists for the Hawks. Ronald Elliott had 12 points and seven rebounds. Malcalm Eason had seven points and six assists.
Jonathon Buie led Western Harnett with 19 points.
The Hawks host Harnett Central tonight at 8 p.m. The Eagles (0-7) played Lee County last night and will host Harnett Central Monday at 8 p.m.
Northern Durham 77, Northwood 68
Northwood (2-2) fought back from a 36-23 halftime deficit, cutting Northern Durham’s lead to 60-59 with five minutes left in the game before a 9-0 Northern Durham run led the Knights (5-2) to hang on and win in Pittsboro Wednesday night.
Ricky Council II led the Knights with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Kentrell Barkley had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Kadarus Rone led the Chargers with 24 points. Charles Hope scored 19 points and Aumad Walker had 16 points.
Northwood travels to face East Chapel Hill tonight at 7:30.
Overhills 58, Harnett Central 55
The Jaguars (3-3) won the rubber match in their third meeting with the Trojans (3-3) Wednesday night in Angier.
Senior forward Robert Johnson led the Jags with 20 points. Josh Mason added nine points and Dexter McCrae scored seven.
Don Singletary led the Trojans with 18 points. Tre Rogers had 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Overhills opens Cape Fear Valley Conference play Tuesday at Westover at 7:30 p.m. Harnett Central plays at Triton tonight at 8.
Jordan-Matthews 51, Chatham Central 31
The Jets rolled to a 6-0 mark and a season sweep over the Bears (0-3) at Chatham Central Wednesday night.
Jordan-Matthews hosts Union Pines tonight at 7:30 p.m. Chatham Central hosts East Montgomery in a Yadkin Valley game tonight at 7:30.
Scotland County 66, Southern Lee 31
Scotland County led 40-8 at halftime and went on to an easy win over the visiting Lady Cavaliers Wednesday night. The Lady Cavs (0-5) start Cape Fear Valley Conference play Tuesday evening at Western Harnett at 6:30.
Triton 63, Western Harnett 29
Junior guard Alexis Hobson led Triton with 20 points as the Lady Hawks beat Western Harnett for the third time this season. The previous two Triton wins were by six- and one-point margins. Mallary Caroway had 10 points, six assists and five rebounds for Triton.
The Lady Hawks (3-3) host Harnett Central tonight at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Eagles (0-7) played Lee County last night and will host Harnett Central Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Harnett Central 57, Overhills 33
Harnett Central (6-0) won the second period 16-3 to take a 30-13 halftime lead and go on to its third win this season against Overhills (2-4) Wednesday in Angier.
Senior forward DeAnneisha Jackson led Harnett Central with 18 points. Maya Banks had 13 points. Jalisia Campbell had 10 rebounds. Erica Holmes had eight points and nine steals.
Keosha Robinson led the Lady Jaguars with 12 points. Katelyn Clark and Janna Aultman added seven points each.
Overhills plays its first Cape Fear Valley Conference game at Westover Tuesday at 6 p.m. Harnett Central plays at Triton tonight at 6.
Northwood 47, Northern Durham 42
The Lady Chargers (2-2) made it back-to-back wins at home Wednesday night. Gabby Mehringer led Northwood with 11 points. Alexis Brower added 10 and Jasmine Atkins added nine.
Northwood plays at East Chapel Hill tonight at 6.
Jordan-Matthews 47, Chatham Central 34
The Lady Jets (6-0) stayed undefeated and swept Chatham Central (0-3) for the season Wednesday night, pulling away after having a 19-16 halftime edge.
Senior center Erin Bristow led the Lady Jets with 16 points. Taylor Paige had 11 points and Mylia Garner added 10 points.
