Dec. 19, 2013 @ 05:01 AM

Six home games, including a Thursday night opener, plus a trip to FBS program Appalachian State highlight Campbell’s 2014 football schedule.

The Camels open the 2014 season, the second under head coach Mike Minter, with Charlotte at Barker-Lane Stadium on Thursday night, Aug. 28. The contest will be the program’s second Thursday night game after opening the 2012 season against Shorter in Buies Creek.

Campbell traveled to Charlotte and fell 52-7 to begin 2013 in the 49ers’ inaugural game.

Campbell’s first road test will come at Appalachian St. on Sept. 6. The Mountaineers, winners of the 2005, 2006 and 2007 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) national titles, will be making the transition to college football’s highest level, the Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in 2014, becoming Campbell’s second-ever FBS opponent. CU lost at Old Dominion in 2013.

The Camels will then head to Charleston Southern on Sept. 13 before a bye week.

Campbell will open Pioneer Football League play at home on Sept. 27 against Valparaiso. The game will be part of CU’s annual Family Weekend. Campbell will host Davidson on Oct. 18 for Homecoming.

All game times will be announced on a later date.

The Camels went 3-9 overall in 2013, finishing the year with a 47-14 win at Davidson. Campbell set 21 team offensive records in Minter’s first season, including rushing yards (2,800), passing yards (2,436), and total offense (5,236), four defensive team records, including sacks (27), and three CU records on special teams.

Senior Kurt Odom was named First Team All-PFL while seven Camels earned honorable mention nods. Odom, along with Adam Lutz, Ben Bolling and Hunter Somerville were also First Team Academic All-PFL. Michael Rudisill and Lucas Smith both earned Second Team honors.
