Fighting Camels cook Johnson and Wales, 95-64

BUIES CREEK (AP) — Reco McCarter scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Campbell over Johnson & Wales 95-64 Saturday.
McCarter scored 13 in the first half. He hit a 3-pointer to open the second half to stretch the Campbell (5-7) lead to 48-34.
Darius Leonard scored eight of his 13 points in the second half. His two free throws capped a 28-9 run to pull the Fighting Camels ahead 73-43 with 8:01 remaining. Leonard was 3 of 4 from the floor, and scored in double figures for the eighth time this season. He also had six rebounds.
Marvelle Harris scored nine points and pulled in nine rebounds, and Kyre' Hamer added 13 points for the Fighting Camels.
Kindrick Anderson scored 16 points, and Hursel Forbes added 12 to lead Johnson & Wales. The Wildcats have lost five straight.

 

Old Dominion 69, NC-Wilmington 57
WILMINGTON (AP) — Richard Ross scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Old Dominion to a 69-57 win over North Carolina-Wilmington on Saturday.
Keenan Palmore contributed 16 points and Jordan Baker added 10, including a 3-pointer midway through the second half that sparked an 11-2 run to break-open the tight game and give ODU (5-7) a lead they would hold. The Monarchs shot 50 percent from the field but continued to struggle from beyond the arc, hitting just 3 of 9 from 3-point range.
UNCW (6-7) trailed just 24-22 at the half and retook the lead on a Luke Hager layup and then padded it with a Freddie Jackson layup to make it 35-32 with 13:06 left. But the Seahawks couldn't hold their advantage as ODU stormed back and pulled steadily away.
Cedrick Williams led UNCW with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Hager added 10 points.

 

Georgia 65, W. Carolina 63

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Charles Mann made two free throws with 2.5 seconds left to rally Georgia to a 65-63 win over Western Carolina on Saturday.
With the score tied 63-all, Georgia ran the clock down for Mann to penetrate. After he made the first free throw, Georgia coach Mark Fox called timeout to instruct Mann to miss the second free throw on purpose, but he still made it. Mann had been 3 of 9 from the line previously.
Kenny Gaines led Georgia (6-4) with 17 points. Mann added 13, and Brandon Morris 11.
The Catamounts scored the first eight points of the second half to go ahead 37-29 and led most of the way from there. Trey Sumler was 4 of 5 from the 3-point line and scored 21 points for Western Carolina (6-8).
Georgia did not lead in the second half until Nemanja Djurisic's 3-pointer made it 61-58 with 1:25 left.

 

Saint Louis 79, North Carolina A&T 57

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Dwayne Evans scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Saint Louis won its fifth straight with a 79-57 victory over North Carolina A&T Saturday.

Evans made two free throws to give Saint Louis (11-2) a 10-8 lead, and the Billikens led the rest of the way. Evans hit another pair of free throws to stretch the lead to 50-30 with 16:13 remaining. Saint Louis never led by less than 17 points in the second half.

Evans was coming off a season-high 24 points Wednesday night against Indiana State.

Mike McCall Jr. hit two 3-pointers in a row and scored 13 points. He has 1,004 career points, and becomes the 29th Billiken to surpass 1,000.

Lamont Middleton made two free throws to pull North Carolina A&T (3-9) within 17 points, 59-42 with 9:11 remaining. Middleton was 8 of 11 from the line and scored 18 points to lead the Aggies.
