Campbell junior guard D Janelle Brown scored 16 points during a 24-4 run that spanned both halves in a 74-55 victory on Monday night at Longwood's Willett Hall.
D Brown led a trio of double-figure scorers with 17 points. Senior forward Roslyn Presley and sophomore guard RaeChaun Edwards contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively.
The Lady Camels secured their second road victory of the year and improved to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the Big South. Longwood dropped to 3-9 and 0-3 in the conference.
Presley grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds, which included 11 defensive boards, and posted her second-career double-double. Campbell owned a 51-32 edge in rebounding, its largest margin against a Division I opponent this year.
The Lady Camels clicked at a 48.3-percent rate from the field as 11 Lady Camels scored. Campbell shot 58.1 percent in the first half, its most consistent performance of the season.
D Brown was 4-for-5 from beyond the arc as Campbell made 8-of-16 jumpers from deep. Junior guard Casey Elliott, sophomore guard Jessica Pone, freshman forward Amanda Coffer and Gaines each made a three-pointer.
Coming off the bench was Edwards, who went 5-of-6 and registered 12 points. A solid seven-point and eight-rebound performance was added by junior guard Ashley James.
Longwood was led by Kyndal Skersick with 23 points.
Campbell opened the contest on a 19-4 run over the first six minutes as it hit nine of its first 11 shots. James was fed often in the post, totaling seven points during the stretch. James and Presley made lay-ups which led to three-point plays.
After finding success inside, perimeter scoring became a key component of the Lady Camel offense with the team going 5-of-8 from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Lancers rallied by cutting the Campbell advantage to 36-33 on a trey by Skersick with 4:08 left. The back and forth action continued as the Lady Camels scored the final nine points to take a 45-33 advantage into the half.
Campbell took a 60-39 advantage with 9:03 left on a layup by sophomore guard Summer Leverette. The basket capped a 23-4 run as Brown scored 16 points and made three treys during the stretch.
Earlier in the day, the Lady Camels aided the Baruch men's basketball team, a Division III school in New York City, to its game at Hampden-Sydney. The bus for Baruch broke down outside the Campbell team hotel and while the Lady Camels were having their pregame meal, Campbell's bus dropped off the Baruch team for its 4 p.m. game.
Campbell rings in the New Year on Saturday inside Gore Arena/John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center with a 2 p.m. matchup against Big South rival High Point.
