Camels open PFL play at Valparaiso
Campbell opens its Pioneer Football League slate Saturday at Valparaiso, taking on the Crusaders at 2 p.m. at Brown Field.
The Camels are 1-2 after splitting a pair of nonconference home games before a bye last Saturday. Valparaiso (0-3) is also coming off a bye week after falling to William Jewell 36-34 on Sept. 14.
Campbell owns the Football Championship Subdivision's seventh-best rushing attack, netting 282.7 yards per game. Senior quarterback Brian Hudson leads the way with 210 yards on the ground, adding 241 yards passing and two touchdowns. Freshman running back Keith Goss adds 142 yards rushing and a score, while A.J. Artis owns 98 yards receiving on 10 catches with a touchdown.
On the defensive side, redshirt junior linebacker Matt Farris leads the way with 24 tackles, including 1.5 for loss with an interception. Jaylan Adlam and Taurean Lynch tack on 19 and 17 stops, while Lucas Smith, Brandon Stegall and Andrew Yost have recorded 14 apiece.
Valparaiso leads the all-time series with the Camels 3-2, taking each of the last two outings, last season’s 41-21 contest in Buies Creek and 2011’s 34-31 game at Brown Field.

The Camels return home on Oct. 5, hosting Morehead State in a 1 p.m. kickoff.
