Jets get one-hitter for 2-0 victory
Jordan-Matthews 2, Providence Grove 0
Jet pitcher Josh Hudson fired a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts as Jordan-Matthews (6-2, 2-0) got a key Mid-State win over Providence Grove (5-4, 3-1) Friday night.
The Jets scored a run on Ethan Cook’s sacrifice fly in the fifth, then made it 2-0 on Justin Kidd’s RBI single in the sixth. Casey Golden and Chip Perry had two hits each.
The Jets will play at Eastern Randolph Monday at 7 p.m.
Northwood 11, N.C. School of Science and Math 1
The Chargers (8-1, 6-0) remain perfect in the Carolina 12. Northwood will play in a spring break tournament in Wilmington Monday-Wednesday.
Harnett Central 11, East Wake 1
The host Trojans (5-2, 2-1) took the lead with five runs in the second inning and went on to a Greater Neuse River win Friday night.
Tyson Messer got the win on the mound as East Wake managed only two hits.
Harnett Central will play at Smithfield-Selma Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Gray’s Creek 10, Overhills 9
Gray’s Creek (8-1, 4-0) remains atop the Cape Fear Valley thanks to rallying for three runs in the top of the seventh to come back and win at Overhills (1-8, 1-3) Friday night.
The Jaguars will play at Southern Lee Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Purnell Swett 5, Pinecrest 4
The Rams (5-5, 2-1) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, getting the winning run with a walk-off walk, in a Southeastern Conference game Friday night.
Pinecrest (8-2, 2-2) will play Laney in the first round of the Wilmington Spring Break Tournament at Ashley on Monday.
North Moore 9, Gray Stone Day 2
The Mustangs (5-4, 5-2) beat the visiting Knights in a Yadkin Valley game Friday night. North Moore will play at Chatham Central Tuesday at 7 p.m.
SoftballDouglas Byrd 17, Southern Lee 7
Douglas Byrd (7-3, 3-2) got a Cape Fear Valley victory at Southern Lee Friday night. The Lady Cavaliers (1-4, 1-3) will host Overhills Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Chatham Central 14, Albemarle 0
The Lady Bears (8-0, 7-0) remained undefeated with a YVC win at Albemarle Friday afternoon. Chatham Central, the top-ranked squad in the state in the N.C. Softball Coaches Assoc. 1A poll, is off until a game at North Moore on April 2.
Gray’s Creek 9, Overhills 8
Gray’s Creek (7-3, 2-2) held on for a CFVC win as the Lady Jaguars scored four runs in a seventh-inning rally in Spring Lake Friday night.
Lynnsey Taylor went 4-for-4 with two runs and Sarah Watson had four RBI for the Lady Bears.
Overhills (1-7, 1-2) plays at Southern Lee Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Triton 14, Eastern Wayne 10
Triton jumped out to a 7-0 lead through two innings and held on in a slugfest in an ECC game in Erwin Friday night.
Kaitlin Ennis and Kayce Graves hit one homer apiece for the Lady Hawks. Ennis, Graves and Jordan Jackson had three RBI each.
Triton (8-2, 4-1) will host South View Monday at 6 p.m.
Gray Stone Day 4, North Moore 2
The Lady Mustangs (5-2, 3-2) fell in a Yadkin Valley game at Gray Stone Day Friday. North Moore will host Southwestern Randolph Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Providence Grove 10, Jordan-Matthews 7
Providence Grove (6-3, 3-1) beat the visiting Lady Jets (2-2, 2-1) in a Mid-State game Friday night. Jordan-Matthews will host Bartlett Yancey Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The Chargers (2-4) fell at East Chapel Hill on Thursday night. Northwood will host Carrboro on April 2.

The Lady Vikings (6-1, 4-0) cruised to a Cape Fear Valley win at Western Harnett Friday night. Union Pines plays next at Northwood on April 1. Western Harnett will play at Westover Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The Lady Patriots played to a draw on the road Friday night. Pinecrest (5-1-3, 4-0-0) is off until hosting Southeast Guilford on April 8.

Jordan Forbess and Alisha McGriff scored a goal each giving the Lady Jaguars a non-league win at Richmond Friday night. Overhills (2-4-1, 0-1-0) will host Gray’s Creek Monday at 7 p.m.
Carrboro 6, Northwood 1
Carrboro (7-0-1) rolled to a Carolina 12 victory at Northwood Friday night. The Lady Chargers (2-5, 1-3) will host Union Pines on April 1.
