Union Pines 73, Gray's Creek 51

Union Pines (20-3, 11-1), already assured of a share of the Cape Fear Valley Conference's season title, won it outright with a victory at Gray's Creek Saturday afternoon.

Freshman guard Nyona Shields led the Lady Vikings with 23 points and five assists.

Stephanie Johnson had 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists while Maresa Smith scored 10 points and Tiffany Hicks scored nine. Union Pines led 33-24 at halftime before rolling to a big lead.

Entering Saturday's schedule, Terry Sanford was a game behind the Lady Vikings in the CFVC.

Union Pines will be the top seed heading into the CFVC Tournament which gives the Lady Vikings a bye into the semifinals. Union Pines will host both semifinals on Thursday. The tournament begins Tuesday. The final will be played Friday at the highest remaining seed of the two boys' tournament finalists.

Cleveland 37, Western Harnett 30

Cleveland (10-12, 7-2) topped the visiting Lady Eagles (2-17, 2-7) in a rescheduled Two Rivers Conference game Saturday afternoon.

Western Harnett will host Triton, in the regular-season finale for both, at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Triton 45, Corinth Holders 36

Triton (8-13, 4-5) completed a regular-season sweep versus Corinth Holders Saturday evening in a make-up Two Rivers game. The Lady Hawks were tied for third in the conference with Smithfield-Selma entering the game.

The Lady Hawks will play at Western Harnett at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Boys basketball

Triton 62, Corinth Holders 50

Triton (16-5, 8-1) won its seventh straight game and took a regular-season sweep versus Corinth Holders in Two Rivers basketball Saturday evening in Erwin.

The Hawks will have the chance to win the league season championship outright in their regular-season finale at Western Harnett at 8 p.m. Monday.
