Lady Crusaders roll into state semis

NCISAA 1A State Tournament - quarterfinal
Grace Christian 70, Hobgood Academy 42
No. 2-seeded Grace Christian (24-2) advanced into the state semifinals with a 70-42 rout over No. 7 Hobgood Academy Thursday night in the NCISAA 1A State Tournament at Calvary Baptist Day School.
Senior guard Anna Murr led all scorers with 23 points while getting five steals and four assists. Murr made 3 of 5 three-point shots.
Karinda Farrant had 21 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and three assists for the Lady Crusaders. Alexis Ross had 18 points, seven assists and five steals. Madison Bolen had four points, five boards and five steals.
Cassidy Robertson, with 14 points, and Taylor Smith, with nine, led Hobgood (23-5).
Grace Christian bolted to a 29-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and eventually led 64-32 going to the fourth quarter. The Lady Crusaders tallied 26 steals overall.

Cape Fear Valley Conference Tournament - semifinal
Union Pines 78, Gray's Creek 46
No. 1 Union Pines (21-3) romped past No. 4 Gray's Creek (11-14) in the CFVC semifinals in Cameron Thursday night. In the second semifinal, No. 2 Terry Sanford (18-7) defeated No. 3 Westover 49-35.
The Lady Vikings built a 46-17 lead by halftime versus Gray's Creek.
Stephanie Johnson led the Lady Vikings with 18 points and eight rebounds. At the guard spots, Nyona Shields had 14 points and three steals and Lexie Coxe had 13 points, including three three-pointers, eight assists and four steals.

Two Rivers Conference Tournament - semifinal
Triton 49, Cleveland 46
No. 3 Triton (11-13) beat No. 2 Cleveland for the first time in three tries this season to advance to the Two Rivers Conference Tournament final.
Sophomore Tarica Worney had a double-double of 13 points and 11 boards for the Lady Hawks. Octavia Hart added eight points. Triton led 27-15 at halftime.
Triton faced No. 1 South Johnston in the championship game last night.

Boys basketball
Two Rivers Conference Tournament - semifinal
Triton 51, South Johnston 45
The season-champion Hawks (18-5) beat visiting South Johnston (11-14) Thursday night to reach last night's tournament final.
Junior guard D'Angelo Harris led the Hawks with 17 points, including 8-of-10 field-goal shooting, and had six rebounds and four assists. Chris Eason scored 11 points and Trent Fennell added 10.
Triton hosted Smithfield-Selma in the final last night.
