Lady Camels take care of win at Asheville

Campbell withstood a late UNC Asheville run and committed a season-low nine turnovers Thursday night, taking a 61-52 win at the Kimmel Center. Ashley James led CU with 15 points, while Roslyn Presley scored in double digits for the sixth-straight game with 10.

James led the Fighting Camels in scoring for the second time this season, notching 11 of her 15 points in the first half. She added seven rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal.

Presley was 5 for 11 from the field and added six rebounds.

Kiera Gaines was the only player who tallied double-digit rebounds with 10, and added nine points and two assists.

Amanda Coffer was also a presence on the floor, tallying 11 points and three blocks in 13 minutes of work. Every Lady Camel who entered the game scored in the victory.

Campbell (18-10, 13-6) used a 14-4 run spanning 7:55 in the second half to go up 52-32 on Asheville (10-18, 7-12) with 7:18 to go, with six Lady Camels notching baskets.

The Bulldogs bounced back with a 10-0 sprint in the next 1:41, led by Shonese Jones, who scored eight of the Asheville points, closing the score to 52-42 in favor of CU.

The closest Asheville could get to Campbell was seven, 59-52, with 15 seconds to go.

Campbell finished the game shooting 25 for 57 (43.9 percent) from the field and 3 for 14 (21.4 percent) from behind the arc.

The Bulldogs shot 18 for 55 (32.7 percent) overall and 4 for 24 (16.7 percent) from three-point range.

The Lady Camels started the game sluggishly, missing their first three shots and committing two turnovers in the opening three minutes. James provided a spark for the CU offense, netting seven of the team's first 10 points on three field goals and a free throw.

James' layup with 9:44 to go in the first half put Campbell ahead 16-14, and the Lady Camels led the rest of the game.

The Lady Camels close out the regular season today with a 1 p.m. tip at Winthrop.
