Area scores: Chatham Central ends tourney with shutout win

Baseball

Chatham Central 4, Graham 0

Bear senior Zack Burke fired a one-hitter and helped himself with a two-run homer as Chatham Central (7-8, 4-5 Yadkin Valley) finished the Graham Invitational with a 2-1 mark in the tourney Monday at Graham.

The Bears broke up a scoreless game with two runs in the fifth. Hunter Little, Andrew Jurden and Camen Mitchell scored a run each.

On the mound, Burke (4-2) allowed a hit and four walks while striking out 14.

The Bears return to YVC play Friday night hosting Union Academy at 7 p.m.

Softball

Triton 22, Midway 1

Triton jumped out to a 12-1 lead in the first inning and rolled by visiting Midway Monday night.

Lindsey Champion pitched a two-hitter and hit a grand slam. She went 4 for 5 with five RBI total offensively. Kasey Matthews went 3 for 3 with three doubles, three runs and two RBI.

Triton (9-6, 3-3 Two Rivers) played Cleveland last night and has another Two Rivers Conference game at Smithfield-Selma at 7 p.m. Thursday.


Boys lacrosse

Chapel Hill 16, Northwood 3

The Tigers (7-3) got out to a 5-0 lead by the end of a quarter and led 11-1 at halftime in Pittsboro Monday night.

Northwood (7-4) played at Orange last night and goes to Cedar Ridge for a match at 6 p.m. this evening.


Apex 16, Pinecrest 1

The Cougars rolled to a win in Southern Pines Monday evening. Pinecrest (1-11) played at Panther Creek last night and will play at Holly Springs at 6 p.m. Friday.
