Area scores: Cavs, Lady Cavs rout Westover on diamonds

Southern Lee 12, Westover 2
The Cavaliers led 9-1 after an inning and cruised to a Cape Fear Valley win in five innings Tuesday night versus the Wolverines (0-7, 0-4) at Cavalier Stadium. Alex Bullard got the win on the mound.
The Cavaliers (7-3, 3-1) will host Terry Sanford for a key CFVC game at 7 p.m. Friday.

 

Grace Christian 14, Community Christian 0
Grace Christian opened its Carolina Christian Conference schedule with an easy five-inning win at home Tuesday afternoon. The Crusaders (4-4, 1-0) are the defending CCC Tournament champs.
Shane Farnsworth pitched a complete game for the Crusaders and Caleb Welborn hit a two-run home run. The Crusaders jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning.
Grace Christian plays a non-league game at Cary Academy at 6 p.m. this evening.

 

Pine Forest 14, Overhills 0
Pine Forest freshman Antonio Reneo threw a five-inning no-hitter as the Trojans (7-4, 4-1) beat Overhills (0-7, 0-4) in a Mid-South Athletic game Tuesday night. The Jaguars will host E.E. Smith at 7 p.m. Friday.

 

Softball
Southern Lee 25, Westover 2
The Lady Cavaliers scored twice in the bottom of the first, then tallied 12 runs in the second inning and went on for a mercy-rule win, their first win of the season, over Westover (0-7, 0-4) Tuesday at Southern Lee.
The Lady Cavs host Jordan-Matthews at 6 p.m. this evening and will welcome Terry Sanford at 7 p.m. Friday.

 

Pine Forest 10, Overhills 0
Pine Forest (5-4, 3-2) cruised to a Mid-South Athletic win versus the Lady Jaguars (2-5, 1-3) Tuesday night. Overhills will host E.E. Smith for a MSAC game at 7 p.m. Friday.

 

Girls soccer
Lee Christian 8, Cresset Christian 1
The Lady Falcons scored four goals in each half and routed visiting Cresset Christian for a Carolina Christian Conference victory Tuesday afternoon. Lee Christian hosts Trinity Academy at 4 p.m. today, then Grace Christian at 4 p.m. Friday.

 

Boys lacrosse
Cary 6, Pinecrest 5
The Imps (4-3) edged the visiting Patriots (1-7) Tuesday night in Cary.
Senior Patrick Guarente led the Patriots with two goals. Zach Fradenburgh had a goal and an assist. Patriot keeper Ross Weiss made 12 saves.
Pinecrest hosts Green Hope at 6 p.m. this evening.
