Pinecrest runs over Jaguars

Pinecrest 35, Overhills 14

The Patriots (1-0) stormed out to a 28-0 halftime lead over the host Jaguars and rolled to an opening-night win in Spring Lake Friday.

Senior running back Josh McCoy, on runs of eight and four yards, scored the first two Patriot touchdowns of the night. McCoy finished with 13 carries for 87 yards and the two touchdowns.

Sophomore quarterback Christian Ledbetter rushed 19 times for 97 yards overall and the third Pinecrest touchdown of the first half.

Darius Stoner and Bradley Black rushed for a touchdown apiece.

Pinecrest will play at Douglas Byrd at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Overhills (0-1) will play at Triton Friday night.

Triton 19, Cape Fear 9

Triton’s Zach Wade rushed for two touchdowns and the Hawk defense was strong as the Hawks (1-0) beat visiting Cape Fear (0-1) Friday night.

Wade’s 3-yard touchdown run was the opening score of the night. Quarterback Jeremy Leggett scored with a 1-yard run, with an extra point, made it 13-3 Hawks in the second quarter. Triton led 13-9 at halftime.

Devonte Stewart and Brad Miller had two sacks each for the Hawk defense. Emmanuel Myles and Cole Matthews had an interception each.

Deangelo Harris was the leading Hawk rusher with eight carries for 55 yards.

Triton will host Overhills Friday night.

East Montgomery 27, Union Pines 22

A.J. Hill’s 53-yard touchdown run gave East Montgomery (1-0) the lead for good with 7:22 left in the game in Cameron Friday night.

The Vikings (0-1) and Eagles played a back and forth contest. Max Yates hit Tyler McRae for a 26-yard touchdown pass and Kaleb Johnson’s two-point conversion run made it 8-7 Union Pines in the second quarter.

Johnson scored on a 3-yard touchdown run making it 14-7 Union Pines. East Montgomery made it 14-14 at halftime.

Phillip Hall’s 83-yard punt return for a touchdown and another Johnson two-point run made it 22-14 Vikings in the third quarter.

Johnson rushed 22 times for 83 yards. Yates finished 5-for-15 passing with 101 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Union Pines travels to North Moore Friday night.


Trinity 46, North Moore 14

Trinity (1-0) jumped out to a 27-0 lead and beat the Mustangs (0-1) in their first game under new head coach Mike Vogt.

Sophomore quarterback Malik McCrimmon and sophomore receiver Pat Harner connected on a touchdown pass late in the second quarter to make it 27-6 at halftime. Braxton Beck scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

McCrimmon went 15-for-35 passing for 193 yards for the Mustangs. Kirby Lambert caught four receptions for 92 yards. Harner had three catches for 73 yards.

Trinity gained 293 yards rushing and 78 through the air.

North Moore will host county-rival Union Pines at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
