Baseball

Lee County 3, Asheboro 1 - 8 innings

Alex Scott and Patrick Bethea came through with RBI hits in the top of the eighth inning to give Lee County a 2-0 mark in the Asheboro Copperhead Classic Tuesday night.

The Yellow Jackets (5-7) got on the board in the second with Chase Arrington's double followed by an RBI hit by Alston Scott. Asheboro, facing Arrington on the mound for the first four innings, tied it, 1-1, in the fourth.

Matthew Pearce pitched two shutout innings, followed by Tyler North blanking Asheboro (5-6) in the seventh and eighth to get the win.

Lee County played Providence Grove last night in Asheboro. The next Tri-Nine game for the Jackets is Tuesday night at Fuquay-Varina.

Jordan-Matthews 6, Graham 3

The Jets (7-4, 3-2) got a Mid-State victory at Graham (2-9, 0-6) Tuesday night.

Josh Hudson pitched a complete game for the Jets. At the plate, Drew Hinshaw had a double and a triple, Hunter Causey hit two doubles and Casey Golden had a triple and two RBI.

Jordan-Matthews plays at Chatham Central tonight at 7 p.m.

Pinecrest 2, West Stanly 1

The Patriots (10-4) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off win in a non-conference game Tuesday night over the Colts (5-5).

Pinecrest will return to Southeastern Conference play at Richmond Tuesday at 7 p.m.


North Moore 5, North Rowan 2

The Mustangs (6-6, 6-4) beat visiting North Rowan (5-7, 3-6) for a season sweep in Yadkin Valley play Tuesday night. North Moore is in the Chatlee Easter Invitational being played at Southern Lee and Union Pines today through Saturday.


Harnett Central 6, Corinth Holders 4

The Trojans (9-3) finished the Johnston County Easter Invitational with a win over Corinth Holders (9-3) for a 2-1 mark in the tourney.

Cole Hart got the win on the mound for the Trojans. Harnett Central rallied from a 3-1 deficit going to the fifth inning.

Harnett Central will play at Knightdale on Tuesday at 7 p.m.


Softball

Union Pines 9, Northwood 6

The Lady Vikings (8-1) won their eighth straight game while giving Northwood (7-1) its first loss of the season Tuesday evening. Union Pines hosts Pinecrest today at 4:30 p.m. Northwood has a Carolina 12 game at Franklin Academy today at 5 p.m.

Girls soccer

Union Pines 2, O'Neal 0

The Lady Vikings got both their goals in the final 25 minutes to beat visiting O'Neal (1-2-1) Tuesday night. The Lady Vikings (7-1-1) will host Westover on Monday at 6 p.m. The Lady Falcons host Cape Fear Academy today at 4:45 p.m.


Jordan-Matthews 2, Chatham Central 0

The Lady Jets (5-3) defeated county rival Chatham Central (1-6-1) in Siler City Tuesday night. Jordan-Matthews will host Reidsville Monday at 6 p.m. Chatham Central will host Gray Stone Day Monday at 6:30 p.m.
