Yellow Jackets rout Western Harnett, 42-7
Lee County (3-1) won its third game in four outings this season, scoring a 42-7 victory over Western Harnett (0-4) Friday night.
The Jackets, which finished the game with 344 yards total offense, jumped out to an early 14-0 lead and never looked back.
Lee County scored on its first two possessions, on a 22-yard run by Duane’ Bland and a three-yard run by Jerry Pullum to make it 15-0 after one period.
The Jackets scored two more touchdowns in the second period, as Pullum scored on a 37-yard run and also hauled in an 11-yard pass from Bland. Lee County took a 28-0 advantage into the half.
Lee County rolled up 216 yards of total offense in the first half, while Western Harnett had just 51 yards.
The Jackets kicked off to start the second half, but capitalized on their first possession on Pullum’s 75-yard touchdown run. Ian Frye’s extra-point kick was good for a 35-0 Lee lead at the 9:14 mark of the third period.
Later in the quarter, Bubba Wilson scored on a three-yard run and Frye kicked the extra point to make it Lee 42-0 at the 3:27 mark.
Western Harnett got a fourth-quarter score on a Laron Gilchrist two-yard run with 5:31 to play.
The Lee County defense held the Eagles to 122 total yards for the game. Western Harnett finished with seven fumbles.
Lee County (3-1) will host Overhills and Western Harnett (0-4) visits Union Pines next Friday.
