Southern Lee 9, Douglas Byrd 0

The Cavaliers (13-0-2, 7-0-1) routed Douglas Byrd via the mercy rule in the second half to keep pace with Terry Sanford atop the Cape Fear Valley standings.

Alex Palme and Jair Cejudo scored two goals each for the Cavs. Matthew Wehrly, Isaias Cruz, Zack Western, Ethan Helsman and Juan Penaloza scored a goal apiece.

Southern Lee is holding its MVP Night on Monday night as the Cavaliers will be hosting Union Pines at 7 p.m. The senior Cavalier players will honor mentors in their lives, from athletics to academics and more, during a presentation at halftime.

 

Volleyball

Union Pines d. O'Neal 25-17, 25-11, 25-7

The Lady Vikings defeated county neighbor O'Neal in Southern Pines on Wednesday. Megan Harris led Union Pines with 16 assists, 10 digs and four aces. Tiffany Hicks led the Viking hitters with six kills

 

Union Pines d. Douglas Byrd 25-10, 25-16, 25-15

The Lady Vikings (14-5, 8-3) swept visiting Douglas Byrd in a Cape Fear Valley match Thursday evening.

Chandler Adams had seven digs and four aces. Stephanie Johnson had six blocks.

Union Pines will complete its regular season at Gray's Creek at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

 

First Assembly d. Grace Christian 25-11, 25-12, 21-25, 25-8

First Assembly (9-8) defeated the Lady Crusaders on Thursday evening. Grace Christian (4-10) hosted Chatham Charter last night. The Carolina Christian Tournament is set to start on Monday.

 

Southern Lee 3, Westover 0

The Lady Cavaliers (8-4, 6-4) swept Westover for the second time this season in Fayetteville Thursday night. Southern Lee has two more road games next week, at Terry Sanford at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and its regular-season finale at Lee County at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

 

Western Harnett d. South Johnston 25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23

The Lady Eagles (7-10, 3-5) topped visiting South Johnston (11-7, 4-4) in a Two Rivers match, avenging a South Johnston sweep from two weeks ago, Thursday night in Lillington. Western Harnett will host Triton at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Pine Forest 3, Overhills 1

Pine Forest (15-2, 11-0) remained perfect in the Mid-South Athletic Conference with a win at Overhills (11-8, 7-3) Thursday night. The Lady Jaguars will play at E.E. Smith at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Cedar Ridge d. Northwood 25-18, 25-11, 25-16

Cedar Ridge won a Big Eight match at Northwood (4-9, 2-8) Thursday night. The Lady Chargers will host Orange at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

 

North Moore d. Queens Grant 25-20, 25-16, 25-10

The Lady Mustangs (10-6, 7-5) cruised past Queens Grant for a Yadkin Valley win Thursday evening. North Moore will play at West Montgomery at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Pinecrest d. Purnell Swett 15-25, 25-12, 25-15, 25-20

The Lady Patriots (10-10, 5-3) rebounded to win the last three sets for a Southeastern victory at Purnell Swett (11-3, 5-3) on Thursday. Pinecrest splits for the regular season with the Lady Rams. Pinecrest will play at Richmond at 6 p.m. Monday.

The Lady Vikings (14-2) finished the regular season with a win in Cameron Thursday afternoon. Union Pines is the Cape Fear Valley's No. 2 seed for the NCHSAA Dual Team State Tournament. The CFVC Tournament is set for Wednesday and Thursday at Lee County. The Mid-State Conference Tournament will be hosted by Jordan-Matthews starting Tuesday.

The JV Cavaliers (4-2) won a conference game on the road in Hope Mills Thursday night. Southern Lee is off next Thursday and will host Union Pines on Oct. 17.

 

Douglas Byrd 36, Lee County 20

Douglas Byrd topped the Yellow Jackets on Thursday night in Sanford. Lee County (3-3) will play at Union Pines at 7 p.m. Thursday.

 

Northwood 28, Cedar Ridge 14

The Chargers improved to 5-0 with a Big Eight win Thursday night.

 

West Montgomery 42, Jordan-Matthews 16

Jordan-Matthews will host Reidsville at 7 p.m. Thursday.

 

Southeast Raleigh 44, Harnett Central 12

Southeast Raleigh (4-0) beat the Trojans (1-4) in a conference game Thursday night in Raleigh. Harnett Central will play at Knightdale at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
