Camels host Radford with division lead on line

First place in the Big South Conference North Division will be at stake when Campbell hosts Radford at 7 p.m. this evening in Gore Arena.

The Fighting Camels (9-10, 3-1) share the best record in the division with the Highlanders (13-6, 3-1) entering the third week of conference play. Campbell has already defeated preseason North favorite High Point, 74-71, and is coming off a 97-93 overtime win on Saturday against VMI, the nation’s highest-scoring team.

Darius Leonard, with 21 points, and Leek Leek, with 19, hit career scoring highs, while Reco McCarter (21 pts., 13 reb.) and Andrew Ryan (18 pts.) also reached double figures in a game that included 25 lead changes and 13 ties between the Camels and Keydets.          

Campbell is 5-0 all-time against the Highlanders in games played in Buies Creek, 1-0 at Gore Arena and 4-0 at Carter Gym, and 3-0 versus Radford since CU returned to the Big South in 2011-12.

On Feb. 19 at Radford, Ryan scored nine of his 20 points in overtime and CU defeated the Highlanders 72-66. McCarter scored 14 for the Camels. Javonte Green led Radford with 23 points.

This season, Green is eighth among Big South scoring leaders with 16.5 points per game. He's sixth in rebounding (7.5 per game), second in field-goal percentage (.553) and second in steals (2.0 per game).

Against the Big South, McCarter leads Campbell in scoring with 19.3 points per game. Ryan is averaging 14.3 points a game with Leek at 12.3 and Leonard at 11.5.

In Big South Conference games, Campbell leads the league in three-point field goals made (11.25 per game), assists (17.25 per game) and is tied for fewest turnovers per game (9.5).  Campbell ranks sixth in the nation in total three-point field goals attempted (473), 10th in three-pointers made (164) and 19th in threes made per game (8.63).
