Bears claim upset at West Montgomery

Chatham Central 77, West Montgomery 65

Junior Zack Burke led Chatham Central with 36 points, 16 rebounds and five assists as the Bears (4-11, 3-7) beat West Montgomery (7-7, 6-3) for the first time in three tries this season on the road Tuesday night.

Matt Clark scored 15 points and LaQuinn Mordecai scored 11 points for the Bears, who split the Yadkin Valley games with the Warriors.

Cody McKenzie led the Warriors with 14 points. Brad Absher and Vincent Cole-Awong had 11 points each.

Chatham Central goes to South Stanly Friday for a 7:30 p.m. tip.

River Mill 58, Northwood 45

The host Jaguars jumped out to a 15-4 lead through one period and beat Northwood (10-8, 7-3) in a Carolina 12 game Tuesday night.

Freshman guard William Curasi led the Jaguars (8-9, 6-4) with 23 points.

Ti Pinnix scored 16 points for the Chargers and Kadarus Rone added nine points.

Northwood visits Granville Central Friday for a 7:30 p.m. start.


Overhills 63, Union Pines 54

Overhills (10-6, 5-2) got a season sweep over the Vikings (4-15, 0-7) with a win in Cameron Tuesday night.

Josh Mason and Jared Foster scored 10 points each for the Jaguars. Dexter McCrae, Jeremiah Jenkins and Robert Johnson had six points each.

Matthew Maness led the Vikings with 13 points.

Union Pines goes to Gray's Creek Friday night. Overhills played Westover last night and will host Western Harnett Friday at 8 p.m.

Gray's Creek 70, Western Harnett 57

Deiontae McMillian scored 16 points and Jeff Gibson added 13 points leading the Bears (8-10, 3-4) in a Cape Fear Valley win at Western Harnett (2-15, 1-5).

Jonathan Buie led the Eagles with 19 points and Elliott Terry scored 14 points.

Western Harnett played Southern Lee last night and will go to Overhills Friday night.

Clayton 67, Harnett Central 46

Clayton (16-2, 7-1) got 25 points by Anthony Gaskins and 21 points by Gary Clark and won a Greater Neuse River game in Angier Tuesday night.

Hunter Baker led the Trojans (7-9, 3-5) with 11 points and seven boards. Jalen Owens and Don Singletary scored nine points each.

Harnett Central hosted Garner last night and will play at East Wake Friday at 8 p.m.

Hoke County 67, Pinecrest 51

The Bucks (16-2, 5-0) remained perfect in the Southeastern Conference at Pinecrest (11-6, 2-3) Tuesday night.

Tarique Thompson led Hoke with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Adam Cummings led the Patriots with 16 points and Jvyhoun Justice scored nine points. The Patriots have dropped three straight, all in SEC play.

Pinecrest visits Lumberton Friday for a 7:30 p.m. start.


Albemarle 67, North Moore 43

Albemarle (13-1, 9-1) cruised past visiting North Moore in a Yadkin Valley game Tuesday night.

Bryan Blanton led Albemarle with 17 points. Quashan Davis led the Mustangs with 11 points.

The Mustangs (9-9, 6-5) go to West Montgomery for a YVC game Friday at 7:30 p.m.


Girls basketball

West Montgomery 46, Chatham Central 43

West Montgomery edged the Lady Bears, after a 31-31 score through three periods, for a season sweep Tuesday night at West Montgomery.

Chatham Central (6-10, 5-5) plays next at South Stanly Friday at 6 p.m.


River Mill 63, Northwood 47

A night after upending Jordan-Matthews, the Lady Chargers (14-4, 9-1) fell in a Carolina 12 game at River Mill Academy (15-2, 10-0).

River Mill won the second period 11-3 for a 35-19 halftime lead. Daijah Faucette led River Mill with 28 points.

Shontai Totten led Northwood with 15 points and Tyeshia Baldwin added nine points.

Northwood goes to Granville Central Friday for a 6 p.m. tip.

Overhills 43, Union Pines 36

The Lady Jaguars (11-5, 7-0) remained perfect in the Cape Fear Valley holding off the host Lady Vikings (7-11, 3-4) Tuesday night.

Senior guard Katelyn Clark had 19 points and five steals for the Lady Jags. Ge'Naisha Robinson totaled 10 points, nine rebounds, six steals and five assists. Janna Aultman had seven points and five rebounds.

Stephanie Johnson had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Union Pines. Lexie Coxe and Tiffany Hicks had seven points each.

Overhills, with a five-game winning streak, played Westover last night before hosting Western Harnett Friday at 6:30 p.m. Union Pines goes to Gray's Creek Friday for a 6 p.m. tip.


Western Harnett 43, Gray's Creek 42

Geena Bryant scored 20 points and Erin Bryant scored nine points leading Western Harnett to its first victory of the season on Tuesday night.

Kylee Williams led Gray's Creek (3-14, 2-5) with 13 points.

Western Harnett (1-14, 1-5) played at Southern Lee last night and goes to Overhills Friday evening.


Harnett Central 42, Clayton 40

Harnett Central (14-2, 6-2) edged visiting Clayton (11-4, 4-4) for a season sweep in a Greater Neuse River contest Tuesday night.

Senior forward Jalisia Campbell led the Lady Trojans with 15 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Senior DeAnneisha Jackson had nine points and eight boards. Senior Brisha Gilber had seven points, five steals and four assists.

Harnett Central faced Garner last night and will go to East Wake Friday for a 6 p.m. start.


Pinecrest 50, Hoke County 22

Pinecrest (11-6, 4-1) got its fourth straight win, all in Southeastern Conference play, over visiting Hoke County (3-15, 0-4) Tuesday night.

Janea Williams scored 15 points for the Lady Patriots. Felicia Painter had 14 points, 16 rebounds and four assists. Pinecrest led 19-7 at halftime.

Pinecrest goes to Lumberton for another SEC date Friday at 6 p.m.


Albemarle 68, North Moore 50

Albemarle (5-10, 4-6) earned a season split with a win over visiting North Moore (11-7, 6-5) in a Yadkin Valley game Tuesday night.

Akela Branch led the hosts with 24 points. Jalisa Davis scored 27 points, including five three-pointers, for North Moore.

North Moore travels to West Montgomery Friday for a 6 p.m. tip.
