Former Lee County High golfer Carson Lanier played well and had a top finish Monday-Tuesday at a Carolina Players Tour tournament at Carolina Lakes Golf Club in Cornelius.

Lanier, who played at UNC Pembroke after his Yellow Jacket career, shot five-under par 67 followed by a 70 to finish tied for third with Charlotte's Bruce McDonald.

Lanier's opening round had him one shot behind leader Vaita Guillaume, and in a three-way tie for second heading into the second round. Guillaume shot 64 in the second round to finish at 14-under and with a six-shot victory.

Guillaume, a Campbell alum and native of Papeete, Tahiti, won his first professional tournament.

David Sanchez, of Huntersville, finished second with two rounds of 68.

The next Carolina Players Tour stop is set for Charlotte's Raintree Country Club July 22-23.

Chip Lynn, a Sanford native and Lillington resident, led the eGolf Professional Tour's Southern Open by two strokes at the tournament's midway point Friday afternoon in Kannapolis.

Lynn, an Overhills and Fayetteville State alum, has rounds of 66 and 65 at The Club at Irish Creek to be 11-under par. Lanto Griffin, a former Virginia Commonwealth standout who is from Blacksburg, Va., is nine-under par.

Rain pushed part of the second round to Friday. The third round was scheduled to start Friday afternoon. The fourth and final round is still expected to be played Saturday.

Lynn made an eagle on the par-five No. 14 in his first round, going along with four birdies and a bogey.

In the second round, Lynn put together two three-hole birdie streaks, one on each side, and made 12 pars.

Lynn has three top five finishes and no victories in 12 eGolf Professional Tour events this year.
