Triton wins ECC tourney title

Triton 58, Southern Wayne 57

Triton (22-3) won the Eastern Carolina Conference Tournament championship to go with the ECC season crown Friday night at Eastern Wayne Middle School.

Eastern Wayne High was slated to host the ECC finals before a roof leak forced a change of venue.

The Saints (16-8) led 48-41 going to the fourth quarter and 57-51 with 0:56 remaining before Triton rallied to win.

Dedrick Stacker led the Hawks with 13 points, including 3-of-6 three-point shooting. Alex Burnett had 12 points and seven rebounds. Maurice McBryde and Krishawn McBryde had eight points each.

Triton is a No. 2 seed in the 3A East State Tournament and will host Northern Nash in the first round Monday at 8 p.m.


Girls basketball

Eastern Wayne 58, Triton 33

The Lady Warriors (25-1) turned a close game into a blowout in the last eight minutes to win the ECC Tournament title for both ECC titles this season.

Eastern Wayne led 36-30 through three quarters before winning the fourth period 22-3.

Mallary Caroway led Triton with 13 points. Adaisha Harris had 17 rebounds for the Lady Hawks.

The Lady Hawks (13-13) will host Southern Lee in the first round of the NCHSAA 3A State Tournament Monday at 6:30 p.m.


Reidsville 49, Jordan-Matthews 42

Reidsville (21-3) won the rubber game versus the Lady Jets (23-4) and the Mid-State Conference Tournament title Friday night at Bartlett Yancey.

The Lady Rams jumped out to a 22-10 lead through one quarter.

Senior Mylia Garner led the Lady Jets with 21 points.

Jordan-Matthews will host Clinton in the first round of the 2A State Tournament Monday at 7 p.m.

Scotland 46, Pinecrest 42

No. 1-seeded Scotland (21-3) beat No. 3 Pinecrest for the second time in three games this season to win the Southeastern Conference Tournament Friday night in Laurinburg.

Janea Williams had a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds for Pinecrest. Megan Thomas and Felicia Painter added seven points each.

Destiny Campbell led Scotland with 16 points.

Pinecrest (16-9) will host Apex in a 4A State Tournament first round game Monday at 7 p.m.
