Jordan-Matthews 53, Cummings 45

The No. 5-seeded Lady Jets (25-4) advanced past conference rival and No. 13-seeded Cummings (11-14) in the second round of the NCHSAA 2A State Tournament Wednesday night in Siler City.

Senior Mylia Garner led Jordan-Matthews with 21 points. Also on the Lady Jet frontcourt, Taylor Paige scored 14 points and Erin Bristow scored 10 points.

Jordan-Matthews will face No. 1 Reidsville (23-3) in the third round tonight at 7 p.m. Reidsville and the Lady Jets will be meeting for the fourth time in less than three weeks with the Lady Rams going 2-1 so far on the season.

Northwood 47, Cedar Ridge 37

In a 2A second round contest between Carolina 12 rivals, the No. 2 Lady Chargers (24-4) beat No. 7 Cedar Ridge for the third time in three games this season in Pittsboro Wednesday night.

Senior guard Gabby Mehringer led Northwood with 16 points. Shontai Totten added 11 points.

Northwood will host No. 3 Kinston (23-4) in the third round tonight at 7 p.m. Kinston defeated North Johnston 69-16 in the second round Wednesday.

Chapel Hill 71, Triton 14

No. 2 Chapel Hill (27-1) routed visiting No. 7 Triton in the second round of the NCHSAA 3A State Tournament Wednesday night. Chapel Hill led 47-4 at halftime.

Mallary Caroway led Triton with eight points and Je’Nae Harvey scored six points. The Lady Hawks finish the season 14-14.

Southeast Raleigh 55, Harnett Central 45

No. 1 Southeast Raleigh (28-0) turned a 15-10 deficit after a period into a 31-19 halftime lead and went on into the 4A third round past No. 9 Harnett Central Wednesday night.

DeAnneisha Jackson led Harnett Central with 13 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Jalisia Campbell had 11 points and 14 rebounds. Maya Banks had seven points and six steals.

Alexus Hicks led Southeast Raleigh with 22 points.

The Lady Trojans finish the season 21-6.

Southern Guilford 58, Overhills 49

No. 11 Southern Guilford (14-13) pulled off its second upset to reach the third round of the 3A tournament at No. 3 Overhills Wednesday night.

The Lady Jaguars, season champs of the Cape Fear Valley Conference, finish the season 18-7 overall.

Boys basketballKinston 80, Northwood 35

No. 1 Kinston (24-2) rolled past visiting No. 8 Northwood in the second round of the NCHSAA 2A State Tournament Wednesday night.

The Chargers trailed 15-13 through one quarter before Kinston won the second quarter 25-1.

Aumad Walker led the Chargers with eight points. Ti Pinnix scored seven points.

Northwood finishes the season 17-11.

Havelock 63, Triton 61

No. 7 Havelock (18-9) upset No. 2 Triton in the second round of the 3A tournament in Erwin Wednesday night.

Senior Alex Burnett had 22 points and 14 rebounds for Triton. Krishawn McBryde added 10 points.

Triton, winner of the season and tournament Eastern Carolina titles this season, finishes 23-4.

Winston-Salem Prep 97, North Moore 43

No. 1 Winston-Salem Prep (28-1) routed a second Yadkin Valley squad in as many rounds of the 1A state tournament Wednesday night.

Landon Auman led No. 9 North Moore with 12 points. Malik Chisholm scored 11 points.

The Mustangs finish the season 15-12.
