Union Pines senior Samuel Bartram won the 138-pound state championship in the NCHSAA 3A State Championships and Chatham Central sophomore Nick Daggett won the 106-pound state championship in the 1A tournament Saturday night at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Campbell was held to three points in the opening 10 minutes as Radford (16-11, 13-5 Big South) opened a double-digit lead and the Lady Camels (17-10, 12-6) were able to close the gap to single digits just once in the second half in a 67-43 setback inside the Dedmon Center on Saturday afternoon.

Campbell's softball team won a pair of games on Friday at the Eagle Classic, first defeating Tennessee Tech 3-0 and then winning a hard-fought decision, 7-6, against Georgia Southern thanks to a two-run blast from freshman Chandler Patterson (Lee County HS) in the ninth inning.

Chandler Patterson (Lee County) made a name for herself at Lee County High School for demolishing softballs. This earned her the all-time Yellow Jacket home run title, the Tri-9 conference home run title and three all-state selections while playing for Lee.
