Lady Crusaders roll past city, CCC rival

With Brooke Strickland’s 20 points leading four Lady Crusaders in double-figure scoring, Grace Christian cruised to a 66-26 win at city rival, and starting Friday night, Carolina Christian Conference rival, Lee Christian.

It was an impressive week for the Lady Crusaders (9-2, 2-0) as they went 3-0 with the closest contest of the three being a 72-47 win against Burlington Christian Thursday night.

With victories against Northwood Temple and, on Tuesday, at Wayne Christian, Lee Christian (5-2, 2-1) is still off to a fine start in its inaugural CCC season. The Lady Crusader swarming defense and balanced offense was too much of a step up though.

After Grace and the Lady Falcons traded spurts of momentum in the early minutes, with Grace scoring the first five points and Lee Christian scoring two hoops to make it 5-4, the Lady Crusaders rolled off an 11-0 run and never looked back. All five Crusader starters made baskets in the opening period for a 21-6 lead.

Strickland, who’s tallied three quadruple-doubles this season, led the Lady Crusaders with nine points, 10 steals, five rebounds and two assists in the first half. Kaycee Murr and Anna Murr scored eight points each. Grace led 32-12 at halftime.

Peyton Sprouse led Lee Christian with eight points in the half. Lady Falcon passes over the Crusader pressing worked a few times but far too many turnovers let Grace take control.

The Lady Crusaders opened the second half with an 8-0 run. Strickland finished with 12 steals, seven boards and three assists. Alexis Ross had 15 points and four steals. Kaycee Murr had 11 points. Anna Murr had 10 points and four assists.

Sprouse led the Lady Falcons with 10 points. Makalia Gillum had nine points, 12 rebounds and four blocks.

Lee Christian faces another big test Monday evening with a second meeting against NCHSAA 2A state champion Jordan-Matthews. The Lady Jets won 43-24 at Lee Christian last Monday. The tip in Siler City is set for 6 p.m. Monday.

Grace Christian, with a six-game winning streak, continues in CCC play Tuesday evening hosting Northwood Temple at 6 p.m.
