Union Pines 43, Terry Sanford 42 - OT

Union Pines (6-1, 2-0) won the overtime period 8-7 to edge visiting Terry Sanford (4-4, 0-1) in a Cape Fear Valley Conference game in Cameron Friday night.

Freshman guard Nyona Shields led the Lady Vikings with 16 points, including four three-pointers, and four assists. Stephanie Johnson had eight points and 10 rebounds while Tiffany Hicks added seven points and nine boards.

Union Pines will host Jordan-Matthews at 6 p.m. Tuesday.


Cape Fear Christian 39, Lee Christian 31

Cape Fear Christian (1-4, 1-2) won a Carolina Christian Conference game at Lee Christian Friday evening.

Hannah Brannon led the Lady Eagles with 13 points. Kevina Kemp led the Lady Falcons with 15 points and Lauren Lane added nine points.

Cape Fear Christian will play in the Freedom Christmas Classic Dec. 20-21. The Lady Falcons (0-4, 0-2) will host Cary Academy at 6 p.m. Tuesday.


Overhills 45, Cape Fear 38

The Lady Jaguars (6-1, 1-1) won their first Mid-South Athletic Conference game at home Friday night over the Lady Colts (3-5, 0-1).

Jaylen Smalls led the Lady Jags with nine points. Jalla Aultman and Janna Aultman scored eight points apiece.

Overhills will play at Western Harnett at 6 p.m. Friday.


Clayton 56, Harnett Central 33

Clayton (7-1, 1-0) put the game out of reach with an 18-4 third quarter, for a 46-23 lead, in a Greater Neuse River game Friday night.

Madison Turlington led the Lady Trojans with 17 points.

Harnett Central (3-5, 0-1) will host Western Harnett at 6 p.m. Monday. Harnett Central beat the Lady Eagles 34-29 two weeks ago.


Union Academy 56, North Moore 46

The Lady Cardinals (6-1, 2-1) beat visiting North Moore in Monroe Friday night. The Lady Mustangs (2-5, 1-2) will host a Yadkin Valley Conference game versus East Montgomery at 6 p.m. Tuesday.


Chatham Central 57, Gray Stone Day 29

The Lady Bears (2-2, 1-0) won their Yadkin Valley Conference opener at Gray Stone Day Friday night. Chatham Central will play at Eastern Randolph at 6 p.m. Monday.


Salisbury 41, Pinecrest 31

Salisbury (3-5) defeated the visiting Lady Patriots (1-5) Friday night.

Alysha Gaffney led Pinecrest with nine points and Tamaya Leak added six points.

Pinecrest will play at Hoggard at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.


Providence Grove 45, Jordan-Matthews 33

Providence Grove topped the Lady Jets (1-5) on Friday night in Franklinton. Jordan-Matthews will play at Union Pines at 6 p.m. Tuesday.


Boys basketball

Terry Sanford 58, Union Pines 53

Terry Sanford (7-1, 1-0) opened its Cape Fear Valley slate with a win at Union Pines (3-4, 0-2) Friday night.

Mark Gilbert scored 22 points to lead the Bulldogs.

Luke Davis scored 17 points and Armani McCoy had 15 points for Union Pines.

The Vikings will host Jordan-Matthews at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.


Cape Fear Christian 49, Lee Christian 33

Cape Fear Christian (2-6, 2-2) prevailed in a Carolina Christian game at Lee Christian Friday night. Peyton Hensley led CFCA with 14 points.

Garrison Weaver led the Falcons with 11 points. The Falcons (0-5, 0-3) will host Cary Academy at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Chatham Central 52, Gray Stone Day 33

The Bears (1-3, 1-0) cruised to a winning start in Yadkin Valley play Friday night in Misenheimer. Chatham Central led 16-6 after one quarter.

Senior Zack Burke totaled 12 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and three assists for the Bears. Matt Clark scored 12 points as well and Michael Smith added nine points.

Chatham Central will go to Eastern Randolph Monday for a 7:30 p.m. start.

Clayton 63, Harnett Central 54

The Trojans (3-5, 0-1) fell in their Greater Neuse River Conference opener at Clayton (7-1, 1-0) Friday night.

Clayton's Gary Clark scored 24 points. Anthony Staton led Harnett Central with 20 points. Jay McNeill and Don Singletary added 12 points each. The Trojans led 28-26 at halftime.

Harnett Central will host Western Harnett at 8 p.m. Monday. The Trojans won 65-62 at Western Harnett on Dec. 2.

North Moore 69, Union Academy 59

The Mustangs (4-3, 2-0) won a Yadkin Valley game in Monroe Friday night. North Moore will host East Montgomery for a YVC game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Salisbury 54, Pinecrest 49

The Patrios (1-5) fell in a non-conference game on the road Friday night. Kardashian Ragin led the Patriots with 20 points and Stephon Stephens scored 14 points.

The Patriots trailed by 16 with less than six minutes to play before rallying, but not all the way back.

D.J. Alexander led Salisbury (6-2) with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Pinecrest will host Hoggard at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.


Jordan-Matthews 63, Providence Grove 32

The Jets took over with a 16-2 second quarter to get a 37-17 halftime lead and roll past the Patriots Friday night.

Bryson Bittle scored 12 points and Josh Hudson had 11 points for the Jets (3-2).

Jordan-Matthews will play at Union Pines at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.


Coastal Christian 55, O'Neal 44

The Centurions (4-7) from Wilmington won at O'Neal (1-6) Friday night. O'Neal will host Grace Christian at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
