Area scores: Albemarle hands Bears first YVC defeat

Boys basketball
Albemarle 62, Chatham Central 49
Chatham Central fought back within four points, 50-46, starting the fourth quarter after Albemarle jumped out to an 18-2 lead in the opening quarter, but the Bears couldn't keep the comeback going in a Yadkin Valley Conference game Friday night in Bear Creek.
Andre Ridenhour led four Albemarle (8-1, 4-0) scorers in double-digit scoring with 12 points.
Zack Burke led the Bears (4-5, 2-1) with 15 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Matt Clark scored 12 points and Chris Murchison had 11 points for CC.
The Bears will play a YVC contest at West Montgomery at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Person 89, Northwood 63
Person (9-3) and the visiting Chargers were tied, 44-44, at halftime before Person ran away with a 22-6 advantage in the third quarter for a non-conference win Friday night.
Northwood (4-7, 0-2) gets back into Big Eight Conference play hosting J.F. Webb at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Jordan-Matthews 64, West Montgomery 40
The Jets (6-5) rolled to a win at West Montgomery (1-7, 0-2 YVC) Friday night for a season sweep of the Warriors. The Jets led 36-20 at halftime.
Jordan-Matthews will host Graham, opening Mid-State Conference play, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Trinity Academy 53, Cape Fear Christian 35
Cape Fear Christian led 24-20 at halftime and trailed 33-31 going to the fourth quarter before Trinity of Raleigh (4-7, 2-2) took over for a Carolina Christian Conference win in Erwin Friday night.
Kenneth Gilliam scored 16 points for the Eagles and Peyton Hensley added eight points.
The Eagles (2-7, 2-3) will play a CCC game at Crossroads Christian at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

North Moore 78, South Davidson 68
The Mustangs (6-5, 4-0) remained undefeated in the Yadkin Valley with a victory at South Davidson (4-8, 3-3) Friday night. The Mustangs will host West Montgomery for a YVC game at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Triton 72, Cape Fear 67
Triton (8-4) rallied to win its sixth straight game Friday night, beating the visiting Colts 33-22 in the fourth quarter.
Nick Parker led the Hawks with 21 points and D'Angelo Harris added 16 points.
Triton avenged a 58-57 Cape Fear (2-12, 0-2 Mid-South Athletic) win from Nov. 18.
The Hawks will play at Harnett Central at 8 p.m. Monday.

Girls basketball
Albemarle 52, Chatham Central 49
Albemarle (8-2, 4-1) edged the Lady Bears (5-5, 2-1), giving them their first Yadkin Valley loss of the season, Friday night in Bear Creek.
Albemarle senior Akela Branch had 28 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks.
Chatham Central will play at West Montgomery at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Crossroads Christian 36, Lee Christian 28
The Lady Colts (4-11) defeated Lee Christian (0-6, 0-3) in a Carolina Christian Conference game in Henderson Friday night.
The Lady Falcons host Community Christian at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

West Montgomery 62, Jordan-Matthews 38
West Montgomery topped the Lady Jets (3-8), who had won back to back games, for the second time this season Friday night. Jordan-Matthews will host Graham starting Mid-State Conference play at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

South Davidson 57, North Moore 40
South Davidson (9-3, 6-1) got out to an 18-7 lead in the first quarter and got a YVC win versus the visiting Lady Mustangs (4-7, 2-3) Friday night. North Moore will host West Montgomery for a YVC game at 6 p.m. Friday.

Cape Fear 53, Triton 39
The Lady Colts (5-7, 0-2 Mid-South Athletic) won the fourth quarter 21-7 to win at Triton (4-8) Friday night.
Kadizah Gaulden led the Lady Hawks with 15 points, including four three-pointers. Jamecia McNair had five points and eight rebounds.
Triton will play at Harnett Central at 6 p.m. Monday.
