Lady Jackets get first CFVC victory

Lee County d. Gray's Creek 25-23, 25-19, 25-16
The Lady Yellow Jackets (2-2, 1-0) won their first-ever Cape Fear Valley match at home Tuesday night over Gray's Creek (4-1, 0-1).
Lee County also won the junior varsity matching, taking the JV Jackets' record to 3-0.
Lee County hosted Chatham Central last night and will have another CFVC match today at Douglas Byrd at 5:30 p.m.

Southern Lee d. Douglas Byrd 25-18, 25-15, 25-23
The Lady Cavaliers (2-0, 1-0) opened their CFVC slate with a win in Fayetteville Tuesday night. Southern Lee hosts Gray's Creek at 5:30 p.m. today.

Union Pines d. Westover 25-13, 25-7, 25-8
The Lady Vikings (4-1, 1-0) opened up CFVC play with an easy win at Westover (0-3, 0-1) Tuesday. Rachel Breasseale had 23 assists and Alex Prots had 10 kills for Union Pines.
Union Pines hosts Terry Sanford in a league match at 5:30 p.m. today.

Overhills d. South View 25-15, 25-14, 25-21
The Lady Jaguars (4-1, 1-0) won their first-ever match in the 4A Mid-South Athletic in Spring Lake Tuesday evening. Ge'Naisha Robinson had six kills and three blocks for the Lady Jaguars while Katie Keen had 14 assists and five aces.
Overhills plays at Cape Fear this evening at 6 p.m.

Clayton d. Harnett Central 25-12, 25-16, 25-11
Harnett Central fell in its conference opener at Clayton Tuesday evening. The Lady Trojans (0-5, 0-1) played at Triton last night and hosts Southeast Raleigh at 5:30 p.m. today.

St. David's 3, O'Neal 0
O'Neal dropped a non-conference match in Raleigh Tuesday. The Lady Falcons (1-3) will play at Fayetteville Academy at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Village Christian 3, Lee Christian 0
Village Christian (6-1) topped the visiting Lady Falcons on Tuesday. Lee Christian will host Crossroads Christian at 5 p.m. Friday.

Wayne Country Day 3, Grace Christian 0
Wayne Country Day (1-2) swept the Lady Crusaders (1-2) on Tuesday. Grace Christian will travel to face Community Christian at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Coming off a loss in the championship match to the host at the Ravenscroft Invitational Tournament on Saturday, the Crusaders responded well to their head coach's challenge for a lopsided win Tuesday afternoon.
"We had a very difficult practice Monday," said head coach Chris Pratt. "I pushed the boys both physically and mentally."
"The team really did some nice things today," said Pratt. "We really rebounded well and played a complete game. I am very pleased with our level I play, but I know there are areas to improve on."
Jose Leonidez and Zach Boggs scored two goals each for the Crusaders. Jose Leonidez returned from missing four games due to an injury. The Crusaders played without two other starters due to injuries.
Salvador Leonidez, William Kerr, Ricardo Casteneda, Matt Russell and Joe Urrutia had a goal each. Urrutia (2), Salvador Leonidez, Paul Borderlon and Joel Benitez had assists.
Grace Christian (5-2-1) starts Carolina Christian Conference play at Community Christian at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

O'Neal 3, St. David's 1
O'Neal won the second half 2-0 for its first victory of the season on Tuesday in Raleigh. Brian Subin scored the go-ahead goal in the 47th minute and Rick Catania added a goal in the 78th minute for the Falcons (1-3-1).
O'Neal's Hunter Massey scored off of an excellent cross from Subin in the 14th minute. St. David's converted a penalty kick in the 37th minute.
Subin scored with a shot from outside the St. David's penalty box into the corner of the net. Catania struck with a shot from just inside the box. Wil Gilder made 17 saves for the Falcons.
O'Neal hosts Trinity of Chapel Hill and Durham at 4:45 p.m. today.

Harnett Central 5, Western Harnett 1
The Trojans (2-1) beat visiting county rival Western Harnett (0-3-1) Tuesday night. Harnett Central plays at Middle Creek at 6:30 p.m. this evening. Western Harnett plays at Pine Forest at 6 p.m. this evening.

Celina Bullock won her 31st career match as Union Pines (2-0, 1-0) won in Lillington Tuesday. Western Harnett (0-1, 0-0) opened Two Rivers play at Corinth Holders yesterday and will host Smithfield-Selma Wednesday. The Lady Vikings played Southern Lee yesterday and will play at Douglas Byrd Tuesday.
