Lee Christian closed out its baseball season with a 3-2 victory over visiting O'Neal on Thursday afternoon.
Harrison Rogers led Lee Christian by firing a complete game. Rogers notched eight strikeouts and allowed one earned run.
O'Neal, after topping Lee Christian in a game in Southern Pines on Tuesday, had chances to score early, putting runners in the scoring position in each of the first three innings. Smart defense by Lee Christian, including a force out at the plate to escape the first, kept O'Neal off the board.
The Southern Pines Falcons took the lead in the top of the fourth. Carson Bolduc hit a leadoff single and Kyle McClellan drove him in with a double.
Sanford's Falcons answered and more in the bottom of the fourth, scoring all three of their runs.
Rogers started with a leadoff single. Brent Godfrey and Ryan Stutts added singles, but Rogers was thrown out at the plate for the first out of the inning.
Jake Verette followed with an RBI double, driving the ball up the middle. Jordan Rodriguez walked, loading the bases, and Jack Burrus hit a pinch-hit RBI single between shortstop and third making it 2-1 Lee Christian. Noah Thomas drove in the third run by hitting into a fielder's choice.
O'Neal got within a run in the sixth. Two walks set up the threat and Jarred Jenkinson scored on a Lee Christian throwing error.
O'Neal got the potential tying runner to third, as Pait Bryan stole second and third, with two outs in the seventh. Lee Christian made the clinching out throwing out Bryan at the plate.
Godfrey and Verette went 2-for-3 at the plate and Thomas went 2-for-4 for Lee Christian.
