Area scores: Lady Jackets power past Byrd 12-2

Lee County 12, Douglas Byrd 2
Chandler Patterson hit a home run and totaled five RBI as the Lady Yellow Jackets (7-3, 6-2) won a Cape Fear Valley game at Douglas Byrd (6-7, 3-4) Tuesday night.
Morgan Pedley pitched a complete game for the win and got six strikeouts. Pedley had a double and RBI at the plate. Tessa Wilson had a double and two RBI. Lee County broke the game open with a six-run second inning taking a 9-2 lead.
Lee County played at Union Pines last night and will host Terry Sanford at 7 p.m. Friday.


North Moore 3, Chatham Central 0
The Lady Mustangs (9-1, 7-1) shut out the Lady Bears (4-6, 4-5) in a Yadkin Valley game in Robbins Tuesday night.
North Moore will host East Montgomery at 6 p.m. Friday. Chatham Central faced Southern Lee last night and goes to West Montgomery for a 6 p.m. start today.


Purnell Swett 6, Pinecrest 4
The Lady Rams answered three Pinecrest runs to open the scoring in the second with a four-run rally in the bottom of the third and went on to a Southeastern Conference win Tuesday night.
Carmen Love went 2 for 3 at the plate, Anna Bridgman went 2 for 4 and Bri Embler scored two runs for the Lady Patriots (8-4, 3-3).
Pinecrest hosts Lumberton in an SEC game at 7 p.m. tonight.


Harnett Central 7, West Johnston 6
West Johnston (7-3, 4-2) scored five runs in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead, only for the Lady Trojans (6-3, 4-2) to come back with a run in the sixth and a five-run rally in the seventh for a walk-off conference win Tuesday.
Anna Bain had two doubles in four at-bats along with two runs and an RBI while Madalyn Hamilton went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI for Harnett Central.
The Lady Trojans played South View last night and will host Clayton for a Greater Neuse River game at 7 p.m. Friday.


Cleveland 12, Western Harnett 0
Cleveland (8-3, 4-1) routed the Lady Eagles (4-8, 2-3) in a Two Rivers game in Lillington Tuesday evening. The Lady Rams led 7-0 through two innings and ended the game in five frames.
Western Harnett played at Middle Creek last night and will host Corinth Holders at 7 p.m. Friday.


Cape Fear Christian 15, Wake Christian 0
Cape Fear Christian (6-1) drilled visiting Wake Christian (5-5) Tuesday afternoon in Erwin. The Lady Eagles host Community Christian in a Carolina Christian game at 5 p.m. today.


Lee County 13, Douglas Byrd 3
The Yellow Jackets (6-7, 5-3) completed a regular-season sweep of Douglas Byrd (4-12, 1-8) in Sanford Tuesday night in Cape Fear Valley play.
Lee County played at Union Pines last night. The Vikings led the Jackets by a half-game for third place in the CFVC going into last night's game. Lee County will host Terry Sanford at 7 p.m. Friday.


Grace Christian 11, Cape Fear Christian 0
The Crusaders (8-6, 4-1) blanked Cape Fear Christian in five innings for a Carolina Christian win Tuesday. Caleb Welborn got the victory on the mound.
Grace Christian will host Northwood Temple at 5 p.m. Friday. Cape Fear Christian will play at Lee Christian at 4 p.m. Friday.


Pinecrest 9, Purnell Swett 3
The Patriots (11-3, 4-2) made it four straight wins, all in Southeastern games, Tuesday night at Purnell Swett (9-4, 2-4).
Hunter Phillips got the win with Culley Bayless getting a save for the Patriots. Tristan Helms led the Patriot hitting going 2 for 5 with three RBI. Jackson Maples and Dylan Wallace had two hits and two RBI each.
Pinecrest hosts Lumberton in an SEC game at 7 p.m. tonight.


Harnett Central 7, West Johnston 4
The Trojans (6-2, 5-1) topped visiting West Johnston (6-5, 3-4) in a Greater Neuse River game Tuesday night. Harnett Central will host Clayton at 7 p.m. Friday.


Girls soccer
Grace Christian 5, Neuse Christian 2
Torie Boyte and Madison Bolen scored two goals each and Charity Taylor added one goal as the Lady Crusaders (10-1, 5-0) beat visiting Neuse Christian in a Carolina Christian Conference match Tuesday afternoon.
Boyte, Taylor, Kyndle Wallace, Hannah Scully and Jazmine Urrutia had one assist apiece.
Grace Christian plays a non-conference match at 4 p.m. today at O'Neal.


Union Pines 4, Lee County 0
The Lady Vikings (9-2-2, 7-1-0) scored twice in each half for a Cape Fear Valley victory over visiting Lee County (3-7, 3-7) Tuesday night.
Maritza Santos made 32 saves in goal for the Lady Yellow Jackets.
Union Pines played at Southern Lee last night and will host Douglas Byrd at 6 p.m. Friday. Lee County's next match is set for April 28 at home versus Westover.


Community Christian 5, Lee Christian 1
Community Christian (6-3-1, 4-1-0) defeated the Lady Falcons (4-4, 3-3) in a Carolina Christian match in Wilson Tuesday evening.
The Lady Falcons will be back in action on April 22 with a match at Neuse Christian.


Graham 1, Jordan-Matthews 0
Graham's Monica Alvarez scored in the 30th minute and that was enough for the Lady Red Devils (2-5, 2-2) to get a Mid-State win at Jordan-Matthews (5-6-1, 3-2-0) Tuesday night. The Lady Jets hosted Carrboro last night.


Cleveland 9, Western Harnett 0
Cleveland (8-4-1, 6-0-0) rolled to a Two Rivers win at Western Harnett behind Emily Truelove's five goals and three assists Tuesday evening.
The Lady Eagles (3-6, 0-4) will host Corinth Holders at 6 p.m. Friday.


West Johnston 8, Harnett Central 1
West Johnston (13-0-2, 6-0-1) remained undefeated in Greater Neuse River play at Harnett Central (4-7, 2-4) Tuesday night. Harnett Central played Clayton last night and goes to Garner this evening for a 6:30 p.m. start.


Cape Fear 2, Overhills 1
Overhills (3-8, 3-5) led 1-0 at halftime but couldn't complete an upset versus the visiting Lady Colts (11-4, 6-1) in a Mid-South Athletic match Tuesday night.
The Lady Jaguars play a league match at E.E. Smith at 6 p.m. this evening.


Village Christian 1, O'Neal 0
Village Christian (5-5-1, 3-1-1) edged the Lady Falcons (1-3-1, 1-3-0) in a Cape Fear Independent Conference match in Southern Pines Tuesday afternoon. O'Neal hosts Grace Christian at 4 p.m. today.
