Southern Lee seniors Cullen Boyette and Christian Wenger were named to the Cape Fear Valley Conference's All-Conference First Team by the league's seven coaches capping a season in which the Cavaliers tied their program record with 20 wins in a season and reached the third round of the NCHSAA 3A State Tournament for the second time in three seasons.
Teammate and classmate Ethan Helsman received second team all-CFVC honors and Cavalier sophomore Maxx Taylor got honorable mention.
Boyette, a third baseman, hit .423 and tallied 27 runs, 22 RBI and seven doubles for the Cavaliers. Wenger went 6-3 on the mound with a 2.03 ERA and six complete games. At the plate, he hit .420 and scored 29 runs, typically as the Cavalier second-spot hitter. Helsman, the long-time starting catcher for the Cavs, totaled 23 runs, 18 RBI, five doubles and two triples. Taylor, a pitcher and first baseman, hit .394 with 26 runs and 24 RBI while going 3-0 in 11 games pitching.
Lee County, in its first year in the CFVC, had two all-conference players. Sophomore outfielder/pitcher, and leadoff hitter, Spencer Faulk made the first team and senior shortstop/third baseman/pitcher Pressley Hales made the second team.
On the gridiron, Hales, a safety, is continuing his football career at Campbell come the fall.
Union Pines, the CFVC tournament champ after finishing third during the season, had one first teamer - senior center fielder Emmitt Carden - and five all-conference players total.
Carden hit .493 for the season with 32 runs and eight doubles. He's committed to a baseball scholarship from Catawba.
Freshman Riley Cameron, who hit .343 with 16 RBI, senior Mason Collins, who hit .365 with two homers and 22 RBI, and junior Tyler McRae, who hit .340 and scored 16 runs, were named to the second team. Junior Aaron Kennedy hit .355 and went 4-5 with a 1.33 ERA in 13 games pitching and was honorable mention.
